2013 Ford F-150 Transmission Problem
Ford will be contacting the owners of certain 2013 F-150 trucks, equipped with 5.0L or 6.2L gasoline engines and that have had the power train control module (PCM) software reprogrammed under recall 19V-075.
The PCM software used to service these vehicles under the previous recall, does not have the necessary updates to prevent the problem of an intermittent transmission output speed sensor (OSS) signal. In the event of an intermittent OSS signal, the driver may experience an illuminated malfunction indicator light and the vehicle could unexpectedly downshift into first gear. Depending on the vehicle speed, an abrupt transmission downshift into first gear could result in loss of vehicle control and an increased risk of an accident. In some cases, the OSS signal could recover while driving while some vehicles may need to be stopped and restarted to regain normal transmission operation.
Owners will be notified by mail to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the PCM reprogrammed with the appropriate software calibration.
