2019 Buick and Chevrolet - Illuminated Airbag Warning

General Motors will be contacting a small number of owners of certain 2019 Buick and Chevrolet vehicles, because of a problem affecting the airbag system.
According to the defect report, the sensing diagnostic module (SDM) may have not been activated before the vehicles were shipped. This means that the airbags will not deploy during an accident and could increase the risk of injury to occupants.
The vehicles affected by this recall include:
- 2019 Buick Encore
- 2019 Chevrolet Spark
- 2019 Chevrolet Traverse
- 2019 Chevrolet Trax
Drives will be alerted of a problem through an airbag malfunction indicator lamp illuminated on the instrument panel when the vehicle is turned on. Most other SDM functions, such as seat belt reminders, event data recording and post collision notification will also not work.
