Certain 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 2.0L PHEV engines have recently faced an issue that could potentially put drivers at risk of accidents. These vehicles have been experiencing unexpected loss of drive power, which poses a significant safety concern. The FCA Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (TSRC) organization initiated an investigation into the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEVs following reports of power loss incidents.

To address the situation, the TSRC organization conducted an analysis of stall reports and vehicle history to identify the root causes of these power loss occurrences. Through their investigation, they discovered multiple factors and corresponding repair solutions linked to the stall condition. Recognizing the severity of the issue, FCA US, in consultation with the Vehicle Regulations Committee, decided to implement a safety recall for the affected vehicles.

The primary concern highlighted in the defect report involves certain 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles equipped with the 2.0L PHEV engines. These vehicles may experience an engine shut down condition, resulting from diagnostic reactions to faults caused by the loss of communication between the Transmission Control Module and the Hybrid Control Processor. This interruption in communication can lead to an unexpected loss of motive power, which significantly raises the risk of a crash occurring.

To address this safety concern and ensure the well-being of their customers, FCA US has been actively monitoring the situation and gathering relevant data. As of now, there have been a total of seven customer assistance records, ten warranty claims, and six field reports potentially associated with this issue.

The necessary repairs will involve updating the vehicle control software to mitigate the risk of engine shut down and subsequent loss of drive power. By keeping the software up to date, owners can significantly reduce the likelihood of encountering these hazardous conditions on the road.

It is important to note that owners who have experienced significant issues with their 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles and have not found satisfactory resolutions through repair attempts may also explore the possibility of leveraging lemon law protection. Lemon laws are consumer protection statutes that provide recourse for individuals who have purchased defective vehicles. By understanding and utilizing lemon laws, owners can potentially seek compensation, vehicle replacement, or a refund for their problematic vehicles.
