Loss Of Rear View Camera Image: Ram ProMaster & Dodge Journey
Certain 2019–2021 Ram ProMaster and 2019–2020 Dodge Journey vehicles could experience a serious issue with the rearview camera system. Affected vehicles may experience a loss of rearview camera image, creating a safety hazard and a violation of federal safety standards.
Rear View Camera Display Problem?
Some Ram ProMaster and Dodge Journey vehicles were built with a rearview camera microprocessor that may develop cracks over time. When this occurs, the rearview image may fail to display properly during reverse maneuvers. Instead of showing a clear image, the screen may turn blank, black, blue, or inverted.
This defect is critical because Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 571.111 S6.2.6 requires that a compliant rear visibility system must always display the rearview image at the start of every backing event. A malfunctioning or missing image increases the risk of a collision if the driver relies solely on the screen without noticing the failure.
Safety Risks for Drivers
If the rearview camera fails, drivers may not see obstacles, pedestrians, or other vehicles while reversing. A blank or distorted display can give the impression that the camera is functioning when it is not, raising the risk of accidents.
Drivers are strongly urged to take this recall seriously and arrange for repairs as soon as possible.
