Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
2024 Honda Gold Wing GL1800DR Tour fails to detect the keyfob intermittently. The vehicle does not require a standard key to start, unlock or closing/opening the paniers, except for emergency situation and requires at that time a sequence to be followed. For this, it requires that you have the fob in your person while operating the motorcycle. The concerns around the fob/remote is that it looses communication with the vehicle intermittently, inhibiting access, say, to ignition start button or properly closing paniers/top case. The case of the storage containers not properly locking, resulted on highway opening of the paniers, releasing its contents. The vehicle also not starting the ignition sequence, have also affected access to the vehicle, where the rider is left stranded. Fresh lithium batteries, with confirmed voltage levels, has been installed. Motorcycle is shipped with 2 fobs, same issue with both. Warranty claims appointments (3), haven't been able to isolate or reproduce the issue, supporting 360° video evidence showing the issue happening during road use and pre-ride, has been provided to Honda and to the service departments. Honda refuses to replace any parts without the issue being reproduced by the service appointment. Symptoms: missing keyfob dashboard ligh and notification, unable to close/open storage, unable to open gas door, unable to start ignition, unable start any accessories. Actions: replaced fob batteries, main motorcycle battery, turned off both fob, tested 1 at the time at different distances, disconnected all aftermarket accessories, one at the time, more.

Defect Description:
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
I am writing to submit a complaint regarding a potential safety defect in the 2018-2024 Honda Goldwing motorcycles equipped with Android Auto. Shortly after purchasing a new 2024 Goldwing motorcycle, I experienced a concerning incident while riding in Northern Virginia traffic. While using Android Auto, I received a "communications error" message, causing the system to disconnect unexpectedly. Switching to the integrated navigation system provided temporary relief, but Android Auto abruptly re-engaged, leading to a rapid back-and-forth switching between the two systems. This malfunction demanded significant focus to disconnect my phone while navigating interstate traffic, creating a hazardous distraction. Further investigation, including consultation with other Goldwing riders on social media, revealed a potential design flaw: the provided foam sleeve for phone protection overheats the phone, causing malfunctioning and disconnections across Android Auto, affecting the integrated navigation system. This phone overheating issue is affected by the foam sleeve and glove box compartment near the engine, especially during the summer months. I contacted Honda to express my concerns about the potential safety risks associated with distracted driving caused by these malfunctions. Unfortunately, their response was dismissive. They claimed that Android Auto is an "added function" not covered under warranty and denied responsibility for the issue. Additionally, they downplayed the overheating foam sleeve as not a design flaw despite acknowledging potential changes in future models. I am deeply troubled by Honda's lack of accountability for the defective foam sleeve and the safety implications of the malfunctioning infotainment system. Both components are integral to the motorcycle's systems and directly contribute to rider distraction, a recognized risk factor for accidents.
