Safety Issue:
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Ioniq electric vehicles. An unstable electrical ground may cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode with reduced acceleration and power. In certain conditions while in fail-safe mode, the vehicle may accelerate after the gas pedal is released.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
While driving the transmission started driving rough and the car was stuck in ev mode. Wouldnt even go back to hybrid mode. I kept driving until all my battery range was exhausted and lost acceleration and had to pull over the side of the highway. It was late at night so there was no one around or behind me, otherwise I would have been hit. Once stopped the car would not move at all so I called a tow to get me off the highway. I was away from home and had to tow it 120 miles back to the local dealer. The engine clutch actuator failed and ruined my transmission and left me stranded in the middle of the night!

The 12v system in my vehicle is defective, resulting in the vehicle failing to operate. Since I have only operated it about 4 times, i am unable to state whether the issue would occur while the car was being driven. I have had the car checked by the dealer twice, and it is now at the service department with an unknown date for "repair". The diagnosis from the second dealer service department directly conflicts with what the first dealer service department said. Additionally, I have discovered that this is a known issue with this vehicle model, and Hyundai has failed to address it. I have filed a formal complaint with Hyundai, as the vehicle is still under manufacturers warranty. Incidentally, there is a newly issued recall that I suspect is related to the 12v system, as well.

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
When ABS engages briefly on a wet surface, there is an incomplete transition from regenerative braking to friction brakes, resulting in a hard pedal that does not actually engage the brakes. This is very dangerous and I have experienced this loss of braking force multiple times when stopping in the rain and a tire is on a slippery manhole cover or crosswalk line. Braking force is reduced significantly for a second or two until the friction brakes are engaged. If the vehicle is rolling in Neutral, the friction brakes work as designed with no delay. It is only during normal driving when the regenerative braking is involved that this issue can be replicated.
Corrective Action:

Defect Description:
SEAT BELTS
Potential Consequences:
THE CAR WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN WE WERE STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY A FORD F150. WE WERE PUSHED INTO THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US (VERY MINOR DAMAGE IN FRONT). I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND MY HEAD BOUNCED OFF OF THE DASHBOARD. MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE SEAT BEHIND THE DRIVER AND HER HEAD WAS BOUNCED OFF THE BACK OF THE DRIVERS SEAT. THE SEAT BELTS KEPT US IN OUR SEATS BUT THE SHOULDER BELTS FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CAR HAS SINCE BEEN TOTALED DUE TO DAMAGE FROM THE REAR.
Corrective Action:

THE SEAT BELTS KEPT US IN OUR SEATS BUT THE SHOULDER BELTS FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CAR HAS SINCE BEEN TOTALED DUE TO DAMAGE FROM THE REAR.
