Defect Description:

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

Potential Consequences:

[XXX] [XXX] (NHTSA) The contact owns a 2023 Indian Scout Motorcycle. The contact stated that while riding at an undisclosed speed and attempting to slow the motorcycle to complete a turn, with the rear brake pedal depressed, he became aware that the rear brake was not functioning as needed. As a result of the failure, the contact had to pull to the shoulder of the roadway at a high rate of speed, falling off the motorcycle and causing damages to the motorcycle. No warning lights were illuminated. A Police report was not filed, and no injuries were reported. The motorcycle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure, informing the contact that the rear brake was functioning as intended, but that the damage to the rear that was observed was the result of the crash. The motorcycle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 500.
