Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
On [XXX], while driving my 2022 Cadillac Escalade Premium Sport — which I had just purchased earlier that day — the vehicle suddenly shut down without any warning while I was actively driving on a busy street in Decatur, Georgia. Fortunately, the incident occurred while I was making a turn and traveling at a relatively low speed. I lost all control of the vehicle but was able to coast into the center turn lane and activate the hazard lights to avoid a collision. A police officer arrived on the scene and positioned their vehicle to prevent mine from being struck by oncoming traffic. Although I initially suspected a battery issue, the vehicle still had full electrical power. The officer contacted a towing service, and the vehicle was towed first to my home and later to the Cadillac dealership for evaluation. Today, I was informed by the dealership that the vehicle — which has fewer than 25,000 miles on it — requires a complete engine replacement. I am extremely concerned about the safety implications of this unexpected failure, especially given the low mileage and the fact that the vehicle had just been sold to me. I am submitting this report in hopes that this issue will be thoroughly investigated to prevent similar occurrences for other drivers. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be typing this message today. Given the abrupt and total shutdown of the vehicle, this could have resulted in a very serious accident — or worse. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Potential Consequences:
Incident #1 - exiting a parking garage and the vehicle shut off. My wife was able to pull into a parking spot. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and the resolution was a faulty fuel pump module. Incident #2 - My wife was at highway speed 65mph during rush hour 4 lanes of traffic when without warning the truck engine shut off and the vehicle shifted to neutral. I dont know how but she was able to wrestle the vehicle to the side of the highway where we spent 6 hours on the shoulder which was as wide as the vehicle. This could have ended in a fatality either while getting the vehicle to the side of the road or while waiting for the dealer to have our vehicle towed. --- End result was that the engine locked up. We have been waiting 1 month already for a new engine and per the dealer it may be several months more.

Potential Consequences:
Two weeks after purchasing our 2022 slightly used Cadillac Escalade, my family and I were on our annual Thanksgiving camping trip. December 1, 2024 we were on our way back home from this trip on a very busy highway frequented by semi trucks and large RVs (nearby desert camping). While driving and towing a small trailer at approximately 60 mph on this highway, my vehicle unexpectedly shut off forcing me to act quickly to avoid an accident. (Semi trucks and RVs cannot brake and respond as quickly and there were several in the lane next to me, and approaching behind me). I was able to pull over to a shoulder before the vehicle slowed to a complete stop. After attempting to restart my vehicle I was unsuccessful and contacted OnStar to tow me to the nearest dealer. My family and I waited for 5 hours on the side of this highway with semi trucks and RVs passing us at 60 mph. The vehicle was towed to the nearest dealer, yet 100 miles away from our home, and remained in the dealer’s possession for 29 days. The dealer determined my vehicle experienced engine failure and was in need of an engine replacement. I have only owned this vehicle for 1 and a half months.

Driving vehicle between 70-80 miles an hour on the freeway when the car switched into neutral and lost all engine power. No warning lamps or any indication of failure. I was able to steer vehicle to left side of freeway and it had to be towed. It was not a safe location as cars were flying by just feet from the dibbled vehicle. It never started again. Towed to local Cadillac and have been told the car experienced catastrophic engine failure.

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
As i was driving on the highway in the left lane at approximately 85mph, without any warning lights from the vehicle, the car completely shut off. I had to cross over three lanes of traffic on a busy highway with the car completely stalled out to get to the breakdown lane. The vehicle was towed to my local Cadillac dealership where I was later informed that the engine had completely seized. The service department at the dealership indicated that this is a known issue with the engine in the model year 21-24 Escalades. He indicated that there are faulty bearings that send metal particles through the engine causing it to seize.

Defect Description:
AIR BAGS
Potential Consequences:
On [XXX], my wife and I were stopped in traffic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at approximately 7:35pm. Another vehicle failed to stop due to being distracted on his phone and rear ended my 2022 Cadillac Escalade. My wife and I were both injured. None of our airbags deployed and the On-Star system never came on and never detected the crash. By the airbags never deploying, this caused my wife to hit her head on the dashboard as well as on the speakers on the passenger seat. It happened in front of a fire station so they heard the crash and immediately ran out the fire station to help us. The vehicle just arrived at the collision center on 10/17/2024 and they will begin inspection for repairs. None of my emergency warning lamps or any other lights or messages came on in the vehicle. The vehicle just appeared normal like nothing happened. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
