STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Driving down the road the power steering was lost. Received stabiltrak fault and steering loss light. Pulled off the road and shut off for a minute then restarted and it cleared and was fine. One time I had to do this twice to clear. This has happened 5 times in the past 4 years. Twice within the past 2 months. I understand GM is aware but no recall, however I have read of several complaints about this mainly on 2015’s but it’s the same part on the 2016.

Potential Consequences:
My 2016 Colorado is experiencing power steering loss at random occurrences while driving. The date that I lost below was the last time this happened, but it has happened over 10 times in the 5 months I have owned this truck. I'm aware there was a recall on the 2015 with the same issue. I also have seen that there have been over 200 complaints about this problem happening. This is a major problem that affects mine and my families safety, and if something is not done about this and I get into an accident then I will be contacting my lawyer and pursuing legal action against GM.

STEERING
Potential Consequences:
During operation, the power steering cuts off. I have to turn the car off and back on for the power steering to work again. It is very dangerous because the power steering went out while I was driving on an interstate. I am really worried that the power steering will fail when I am turning in an urban setting with pedestrians around. It appears that this is a known issue and is very common for 2016 Colorado trucks. GM recalled their 2015 trucks for this same issue, but they haven't recalled the 2016 Colorado. This is very dangerous and needs to be looked at!

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
The brake pedal suddenly became very stiff with no warning while driving at highway speeds. Braking was very difficult and required me to swerve into another lane to not impact a car and run a red light. I managed to stop afterwards. This was caused by the cam driven vacuum pump failing. No warning of any kind was given.

STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Randomly over the past 2 years, the power steering fails while I’m driving the vehicle. This has happened at start up on occasion, in town, and at highway speeds. Power steering fails and I get a stabilitrak warning message. Turning the engine off and then back on again generally clears the issue, though it has persisted at times where I have to restart the car 5-6 times over the course of 10 minutes to regain the ability to steer the vehicle. It is the same issue as the 2015 model year had a recall issued for, confirmed by the dealership. Why is there no recall for 2016 when it’s the same problem, requiring the same fix, on the same model?

STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Loss of power steering assist multiple times now (about 20 times overall). Power steering is available upon vehicle startup, but soon after it turns off with a message on the dash saying to "drive carefully" and that "stabilitrack" is also disabled. This first started in April 2022 with 114,250 miles on the odometer. Here are the other times: May 2022 with 115,000 miles, December 2023 with 149,725 miles, March 2024 (3 times in one day) at 153,700 miles, several days in April 2024, and now it is occurring every time I drive the vehicle (since April 25, 2024). It usually happens at lower speeds (only occurred once on the freeway), and it only happens so far when the steering wheel is straight (has not turned off during a turn). Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. It is extremely hard to turn the wheel and if someone cut in front of me I would not be able to turn to avoid. I've read online about many others having this issue. The 2015 Colorado was recalled for this issued, but the 2016 hasn't been.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
Operator reported that under braking, they lost all power assist to the brake pedal and brake pedal was extremely hard to push. This resulted in extended stopping distance and difficulty slowing the vehicle down. It was found that the vacuum pump had failed. We are a large utility fleet, and this issue has occurred a number of times to our Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon vehicles and we deem this a safety issue. These incidents have been reported to the OEM and we recently received the attached reply, "We submitted a “Speak up for Safety Campaign” to our internal quality team for review. These reviews are conducted to determine if there is a manufacturing or design defect that could impact quality. After review, the case was closed with no action to be taken." The operators receive no warning prior to the failure.
