Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
While driving under normal conditions, the 6.2L engine in our 2022 Chevy Tahoe seized and stopped running. We were lucky that it was early in the morning and without a lot of traffic and were able to coast the vehicle safely off of the road. Upon inspection from the dealership, they indicated that the engine experienced catastrophic failure. The dealership replaced the engine, Battery, Starter, Fuse box, and steering gear. We were lucky as the failure occurred just prior to us getting onto the interstate. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lights or issues with the vehicle. It was a sudden and catastrophic failure.

Defect Description:
AIR BAGS
Potential Consequences:
Two issues: 1) Vehicle indicates to service safety restraint system yet Onstar diagnostic monthly report says system is fine. The service restraint system notice intermittently goes on and off while driving frequently. Unable to confirm if air bag systems are active while driving. 2) Vehicle was being driven in fast lane around 70 mph and experienced immediate loss of acceleration power while trying to pass semi-tractor. Onboard alert indicates reduced acceleration drive with care. Error code says something is wrong with the coolant control valve. Some servicers indicate they have a backlog of over 1+ month before can diagnose.

Defect Description:
TIRES
Potential Consequences:
The tires seemed to lose their tackiness at 44k miles. With tread life being around 48% they were deemed insufficient and needing replaced by the tire shop during an inspection. A solo accident where the vehicle lost control in wet weather warranted an inspection. The tires had even wear for the most part, but were showing cracking around the sidewall. The tires were only 2 years old and had 44k miles on them. The vehicle and tires were always parked in a garage and/or parking structure out of the sun/elements. With the same brand tires having an 80k mile limited warranty, this shouldn't have been an issue.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
While driving 70mph on the interstate, my 2022 Tahoe stopped accelerating, the engine seized, and shifted in to neutral at 52,000. I was able to coast to the side of an extremely busy interstate, right before a bridge and wait for assistance. The dealer confirmed this is a problem known to this vehicle. The engine is on backorder, even under warranty. They say an SPAC has been filed and I had to make a claim to GM to reimburse them for the starter, battery block, and battery they decided to replace first. They said it could take up to 3 months to receive a new engine and there was a waitlist for a 10day loaner car. The vehicle had just been at the dealer for a 50,000 mile check up and warranty repair. There were no other symptoms prior to this catastrophic engine failure.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Exhaust system failure. Was told by manufacturer vehicle dealer service center that cause of the failure was not from normal use or misuse but due to manufacturing and weak metal/poor materials. No warning lights or messages ever appeared on vehicle information system. First report of exhaust smell in vehicle cabin on 4/9/24 at 38,874 miles. Vehicle dealer service center tested for leaks and found no leak. Second report of exhaust smell in vehicle cabin on 8/6/24 at 48,106 miles. Vehicle dealer service center tested for leaks and found no leak. Third report on exhaust smell in cabin on 10/31/24 to service manager who confirmed he could smell the exhaust in vehicle cabin. Car went to shop on 11/5/24 at 55,077 miles. Two exhaust leaks detected. From dealer: "Smoke tested exhaust system and checked for leaks, found a hole in the exhuast pipe right before the muffler and is likely the source of the smell." Additionally from dealer, after first repair: "After exhaust repair the vehicle was started and heard and audible exhaust leak on the drivers side. After further inspection found the drivers side exhaust manifold is leaking as well." I have been driving this vehicle for at least seven months with exhaust leaks and with exhaust coming into the cabin of my vehicle exposing myself and passengers to carbon monoxide. Reported twice to dealer and they reported no issues.

The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and making a turn in either direction, there was an abnormal groaning sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the rear differential had malfunctioned, and the differential fluids were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the Extend Coverage to address the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71. Sunroof leaked about 6 months after purchase. Could hear water sloshing overhead and then water came out of several places inside vehicle; a/c vents for 2nd and 3rd row, front wheel wells and seatbelt housings. Carpet and seats were soaked and after 2 more times in a week vehicle smelled like mold. Dealer had it in to inspect and said the drains were kinked and clogged. They had vehicle for 3 weeks and fixed drains and replaced headliner and carpet. Now, almost 2 years later, same exact thing is happening.

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
Vehicle reduced power and displayed many errors on the dashboard, including reduced function of forward collision avoidance, reduced acceleration, ESC SES TC. A vibration/rumble was observed (unsure if it was steering assist or propulsion surging), as well as increased engine speed without vehicle acceleration and no engine speed increase while pressing the accelerator. Turns seemed to make the symptoms worse and cycling power on the truck would temporarily clear the faults. Root cause was determined to be TSB 21-NA-149 Cause 3 and diagnosis and repairs took more than a week.
