Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
For over two months now I have been dealing with GM as well as different dealerships and auto mechanics to try and repair a safety feature on my 2017 Chev Traverse. I have been told by all of them the same issue or needing items replaced yet there are NO parts. They have been on back order for 1+ years with no ETA in sight. This is now causing the computer in the vehicle to malfunction to cause more damage that also cannot yet be repaired. New issue while driving my vehicle - the entire dash cluster goes black (all still tied to the same issue). Speedometer and all gauges drop to 0 (zero) as if the car was not running or turned on. After a few minutes it came back on with every single service/ error light on the dash. This happened 4 times in the span of half an hour drive. GM's aware and not backing their product or helping get parts to repair, yet I am out the money of the car and a car payment for a vehicle that is unsafe. What options do I have as a consumer? How are these safety features helping when they cannot be fixed, ordered, or repaired. Who's liable for this? Why can't this be recalled and corrected? There are many articles as well as service bulletins from GM about this known issue involving not only my year, make and model but also the Chevy Cruze, Impala, Acadia (N172097060 - Special Coverage - Side Blind Zone Alert Module Water Intrusion) and I would like to know how to file a claim, have this be investigated, and get the problem solved not out of my pocket so that I have a vehicle with features to keep me as well as other individuals safe on the road that I pay for. Why is it that GM is allowed to continue using these parts they know are faulty, and need a shield protector to protect against this exact problem but wont cover there own vehicle and product?

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
I have owned GM vehicles approximately 50 years and have never had brake issues on a vehicle in any of those years. I have always purchased new vehicles and the vehicle was/is a one person ownership. The current vehicle of concern and consideration is a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse with approximately 21,000 miles. Currently the 6 year old vehicle required all brakes and rotors to be replaced as well as a rear driver side caliper. The garage owner had never realized such an early required brake replacement($967.10) as was required, especially with driving habits less than 3500 miles annually. I did contact General Motors Customer Care and their recommendation was to send this incident report to NHTSA for research and consideration. I am in possession of a receipt indicating service performed on my vehicle 1/6/2023 by a professional mechanic and auto service garage in Sodus, New York. I am deeply concerned about the safety and disappointed with the untimely short “wear” of the braking system. Further consideration and recommendation will be appreciated. Thank you for the immediate attention to my issue and I look forward to hearing from someone. Respectfully submitted

I had my charger plugged into the charge port and for no reason smoke started pouring out of it really bad while I had my kids in the car. Also my chevy link touch screen starting going in and out. My back up camera stopped working, my safety feature of the pre collision sytem stopped working. All of these things happened all at the same time. With all of these safety issues. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle or transporting my kids in it at this point because it appears to be a hazard to mine and my kids safety

Corrective Action:
The electrical in the car is bad. I know others with Chevrolets and are having the same issue. The power windows nor doors work on my passenger side with the key or door controls. Also their is a squeaking noise when braking in my brake pedal. With new pads and rotors the car don’t stop smoothly, feel vibration in the steering wheel. The car is already having an error for the EVAP canister purge control valve. The car isn’t tht old to be needing to replace this already.

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
7/5/22 it has now been over a month since we started to have our car serviced at Ourisman Chevrolet of Bowie. On 7/3/22 while driving up a hill in our neighborhood the engine shut off, the brakes gave out, and the power steering stopped working. Had we been anywhere else my children, husband, and I could be dead from being in a serious car accident. This problem was confirmed by the dealer and reported to be caused by a "defective part" being installed. When I inquired about why there wasn't a recall for this part I was informed that it is a rare defect but they the service department receives a vehicle with identical problems every 3-4 months. We received no warning lamps, messages, or other signs that this was going to happen. During the week of Memorial Day we noticed the fuel gauge misreading and the air conditioning blowing warm. This problem was repeatedly reported. The air conditioning was repaired. The fuel gauge continues to misread.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
I purchased this vehicle in June, 2021 and had noticed that it sometimes lurched forward a few feet when I applied the brakes. I made an appointment to have the vehicle’s brakes checked. While merging onto 12th Street in Rochester, MN at less than 15 mph, I had to apply brakes suddenly to avoid stopped car in front of me. The brakes worked but the car also accelerated and smashed into the stopped car in front of us, leaving a dent in that car’s rear fender, smashing our headlight shield, and making it difficult for our driver side door to open because the fender and door had to space between them. There were 6 similar complaints about 2017 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles at carcomplaints.com, where I also posted. I called the national phone line for General Motors because I was concerned about safety. GM sent an investigator to my home to take photos and electronic codes. They set up a claim for me, although I was only looking for a potential safety recall. Weeks later, they contacted me to say my claim was denied. When I asked for more details, they told me the engineers had concluded that I stepped on the gas rather than the brake. This didn’t make sense to me since both the brake and the accelerator had engaged. The gas pedal is recessed far closer to the floor than the brake pedal. While it is possible that my boot could have pressed on each of them at the same time since I reacted quickly, it's unlikely. I also wonder if the cruise control had engaged since, on this vehicle, it doesn't turn off and require you to turn it on again when you stop the engine and restart it. I requested the engineering data, which they sent me and I kept.
