Husbands Ford Bronco sport has had a constant smell of exhaust that fills the interior of the vehicle since purchased. Dealer said there was a “recall and fixed the problem”. It only lasted 2 days until it began again. My husband gets lightheaded and dizzy while driving and has to stop and roll his windows down. He almost passed out while driving home with our children. Dealership says “this is a common problem and Ford doesn’t have enough parts at the moment to fix it and it will be around 2-3 months until they do.” Also, the car has suddenly stopped while driving or won’t start back up. It has to sit for a day or so and then it will start. Tried replacing the battery and it didn’t work. We’ve had to leave it sitting in random parking lots several times.

The car shut down and would not start again. A State Trooper said I can not stay on the left shoulder and decided to push my car to the next exit. Since it was an electrical problem my car kept locking up and would not stay in neutral and the steering kept locking as well. I was being pushed on the left shoulder with car speeding past me while my car was locking up which also cause my tires to blow out, I was afraid for my life but the officer continued to push me. POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
This is a correction and expansion to complaint #11650564. My 2021 Ford Bronco Sport has now experienced complete transmission failure at approx. 86,000 miles, following earlier rear differential (RDU) failure at 60,600 miles. Both major drivetrain components failed well before expected lifespan under normal, mostly interstate driving. The vehicle has never been off-roaded. Transmission symptoms include shuddering, fluttering, failure to engage park, and severe gear engagement issues. Critically, the vehicle would power forward while placed in neutral — it was not rolling. The wheels received torque while in neutral, which should not happen. Reverse gear would also engage forward motion, and drive would fail to engage at all unless I toggled 4WD low. Park would not hold the vehicle, requiring the parking brake to prevent movement. One serious safety incident occurred when stop-start activated at a red light and the car failed to re-engage drive, leaving me stranded in live traffic. In another case, reverse engaged late and suddenly surged backward near a building. I scanned the vehicle using FORScan and found a code for stuck solenoid A (failure to engage park). I asked the dealer to check the valve body — they refused, claiming the transmission was “shot” without verifying the issue. Ford issued SSM 49930, internally on Aug 5 2022 acknowledging these behaviors in this transmission. These are not just mechanical issues — they are dangerous. I respectfully request NHTSA investigate the 8F35 transmission used in the 2021 Bronco Sport.

After 6 times it finally started and ran good on way home. Later that week, kept having traffic lights in town turn red... constant slow so stop and go. Vehicle started sputtering and stalled out in the highway and died in middle of road and would not start. Had to let it sit several minutes and it finally started. We immediately turned around and went home. Made appointment at dealership. Tried to start vehicle to drop off for appointment but would not start. Had towed in. They claim fuel pump replacement required. Drove home and ran ok. Next day power inconsistent and runs rough at start and slow speed with one push start did not work. Reporting since my spouse is in a wheelchair and can not walk. This vehicle is only one we have that my spouse can get in due to disability and I am seriously concerned if vehicle stalls out on public highway again it is likely to result in an accident and he gets seriously hurt. Never had a vehicle I felt unsafe to have my family be in before and do not think it is safe for this vehicle be on the highway.

The water pump has been replaced twice already and the water pump needs to be replaced again at 105,000 miles. This will be the fourth water pump this vehicle has. The originally came with, two replacements, and now the one that it needs because it is leaking like the previous three. The turbo charger failed and was burning oil. That was replaced. A month later it is back at the dealership being replaced again

The contact stated that the vehicle sputtered while accelerating or making a left or right turn. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with a failed high-pressure purge valve. The high-pressure purge valve was replaced. The contact stated that after the repair, the check engine warning light remained illuminated, and the vehicle seemed as if the vehicle was going to stall after refueling the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, who diagnosed a failed high-pressure sensor for the fuel injector. The vehicle was repaired, but the check engine warning light remained illuminated. While driving approximately 5 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, where the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed failures with the alternator and suspension. The contact had the vehicle towed to a certified mechanic who completed the repairs.
