ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I had a light pop up that said “charging system service soon” so we took the vehicle in for service. Once the dealership got back to us, each of the ports on the wiring harness are corroded. The vehicle is barely over 36,000 miles and I’m already being advised to change out the entire wiring harness so there almost has to be some fault in the coverage of this equipment

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Potential Consequences:

I live in Northern California and we have snow. I was driving after dark about 6:30PM and it was snowing. [XXX]. I was on the freeway to head to a high school performance and picking up passengers. I was on the road about 15 minutes and I was suddenly unable to see the road, it was dark and I thought my lights went off. I pulled over, with 3 passengers to find that my headlights were covered in snow and the light was not illuminating the road. I removed the snow and was able to exit at the next offramp about a half mile ahead. I stayed on the side roads that were a bit more protected by large pine trees. I was able to make it to safely, but I was at risk, with my passengers and other vehicles on the road. Thankfully, I was able to move my car later that night to get it home when it stopped snowing. I then called Ford in Auburn the next day and they said they were not aware of this issue but would see me and made an appointment. I then looked online and found many people complaining about this on many vehicles. It stems from the fact that LED lights do not emit heat. The heat is what keeps the snow from accumulating in the first place. The lights continue to be on, but you are only able to see a small glow under the snow until there is enough snow they are not seen at all. I was at the service department today at Auburn Ford that they looked at the vehicle and then looked online and can see other people with the same issue. Ford has not addressed this issue. They suggested I try Rain X or other non stick product. They said I can call ford and place a complaint and I did that today. Case #[XXX] I was then informed that I need to make a claim with the NHTSA to have this claim reviewed. I was absolutely terrified when the road went dark and I was not able to see and I could not be seen by other cars. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!! There were no warning lamps or messages, no other symptoms or failures. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Potential Consequences:

I have the same complaint that many 2021-2023 Ford Bronco owners have had in regards to the 'scraping/grinding' noise in 1st and 2nd gear. I have seen this on dozens of forums and Ford acknowledged it is an issue. I was told to bring the car in when I was ready for an oil change. This is after being a second day reservation holder and waiting 2.5 years for my car to be built. The dealership told me that the transmission was bad and I needed a new transmission. It will take 10-15 weeks to get a new transmission, and in the meantime all that was offered was a less than ideal rental car (ford edge) and to wait patiently. This is a known issue that the transmissions were faulty, Ford has not been responsive in terms of getting any help/assistance otherwise, and I am not sure if this will even fix the problem. There are hundreds of other owners who have this same issue, and Ford has done nothing.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

I drive a 2022 Ford Bronco and I now have had to replace my windshield for a third time in 5 months from just a tiny rock hitting it. This most recent time on January 22, 2024 was a tiny rock that hit on my windshield on the lower left side of the drivers view. It made contact on the brow or bottom part of the windshield and the following morning it had grown vertically 3 inches. I went to drive to the grocery store and it was raining. The crack then grew as I was driving horizontally across the entire windshield almost reach the other edge on the passenger side of it. I do believe it’s the more straight angle of the windshield that makes it take direct impact so I am proposing Ford go to a strong gorilla glass for its windshields like Jeep did. I’ve heard from a few Bronco owners and Ford employees this has been an issue. Can you please look into this as I don’t think Ford Bronco owners should be punished with constant windshield repairs.

TRAILER HITCHES

Potential Consequences:

The tow bar bent resulting in partially detaching one of the baseplates from the vehicle and damaging the bumper, intercooler, and splash shield. The bar only lasted 5 months and 5,650.6 miles of use. I asked Blue Ox to refund the money I spent on the two items and the money to fix my vehicle. They denied the claim asserting the bolts fell out - the bolts were all returned to them as part of their investigative process. If they had fallen out, I would no longer have had them in my possession to return as this failure occurred on I-95 somewhere between FL and SC.
