Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 23V905000 SAFETY RECALL
139.7K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Dec 22, 2023
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Ford Focus and 2018-2022 Ford EcoSport vehicles. The oil pump drive belt or drive belt tensioner may fail, resulting in a loss of engine oil pressure.

Potential Risk:
A loss of oil pressure can result in an engine stall and a loss of power braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the oil pump tensioner assembly and oil pump drive belt, free of charge. If engine failure occurs due to a damaged oil pump belt and/or oil pump belt tensioner, Ford has authorized dealers to replace the engine assembly as an interim repair before the availability of remedy parts for the final repair. This repair will be free of charge (parts and labor). Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed June 20, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, anticipated in 4th Quarter 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S64.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

NHTSA Campaign: 18V312000 SAFETY RECALL
273 Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: May 14, 2018
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Ecosport vehicles sold in the United States Federal Territiories. These vehicles were shipped with the European brake reservoir pictogram cap label and the European English language owner's manual kits. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Potential Risk:
Owners could be confused by the incorrect label on the brake fluid cap, potentially causing them to replace the brake fluid with an incorrect fluid which could affect brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake fluid cap and owner's manual kit, free of charge. The recall began on June 21, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18C04.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Potential Consequences:

I have a 2018 Ford EcoSport (Recall 23s64). I had asked the dealer about this recall during my last oil change that was apprx 1 month prior to breaking down. I was told I would contacted when the vehicle is ready to be brought in. I was out of town on [XXX] in CT when the dashboard warning indicated "Low Engine Oil Pressure." The car began to decelerate and I took the next exit in Wallingford Ct and called a Tow. There was no Ford Dealer in the area that would see me. My care was towed to Firestone where they diagnosed the issue as being related to the recall. I needed to get the car towed home, get a rental car, and hotel for one night because rental cars were not available until the next day. I have been in touch with Ford and the Ford Dealership. The information they are providing me is sketchy related to covering expenses related to these extenuating circumstances. I spoke with the Ford and Ford dealership about rental reimbursement 2 weeks ago. Only today was I advised that rental would only be reimbursed for Ford vehicles. I pushed back and asked for escalation at Ford. I would like clear and concise information from Ford and the Ford Dealer but they are not particularly forthcoming with information. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
