Recall Date: Dec 22, 2023
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Ford Focus and 2018-2022 Ford EcoSport vehicles. The oil pump drive belt or drive belt tensioner may fail, resulting in a loss of engine oil pressure.

Potential Risk:
A loss of oil pressure can result in an engine stall and a loss of power braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the oil pump tensioner assembly and oil pump drive belt, free of charge. If engine failure occurs due to a damaged oil pump belt and/or oil pump belt tensioner, Ford has authorized dealers to replace the engine assembly as an interim repair before the availability of remedy parts for the final repair. This repair will be free of charge (parts and labor). Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed June 20, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, anticipated in 4th Quarter 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S64.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I realize there is an open recall of 23V905. As well, my vehicle did experience a loss of oil pressure which caused the engine to fail. My local Ford Dealership DID replace the engine. However, the recall is still open given the fact the oil pump is still part of the original recall. My frustration is that this recall has been opened since February 2024 and there is no time frame of the repair and closing of the recall and Ford Motor Company refuses to take a complaint on it and has not communicated to their dealerships as to the time frame.

Potential Consequences:

My car is at risk it has a powertrain and a w d failure when I am driving in the middle of the street or the expressway it stops in the middle of the expressway and loses power loses everything where me and my family could be at risk for a very serious accident leading to death in the middle of the highway or in the middle of the road as I am driving the car loses power and stops in the middle of the road. The manufacturer should be responsible for this because this is obviously something that needs to be fixed where it could be causing my death or my family's death while on the road. My car stops more than six times from the moment that I leave my house even as I am on the road it will literally stop 5 to 6 times losing power in the middle of the street that could cause a potential situation or deathly this needs to be fixed as soon as possible. I should not be responsible for these damages because it is obviously a malfunction of the manufacturer.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My vehicle has 19,800 miles on it and is now facing 1100 in repairs for a fuel pressure sensor that has failed. The dealership, Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Lafayette, Indiana, claims this is a normal wear and tear item. Despite the fact that I have the Platinum extended coverage they say that it is normal for fuel system parts to fail with such little use. This is the third major item on this vehicle to need repair. I currently have a recall that the manufacturer has not contacted us for a solution and we had the thermostats go out at 15,000 miles. Nearly causing damage to the engine. When speaking to corporate service they say that these items are also wear and tear despite there being so little tear. In the platinum package brochure they make mention of "it being easier to say what is not covered" and do not exclude sensors or tubes in the brochure. After a quick Facebook search for issues with EcoSport's it seems that this has many reports from other owners. I tried to speak with corporate supervisor and was placed on hold where they then hung up on me. It seems that when I pointed out that this might be a car issue they became defensive. I believe this is a bigger issue for this vehicle and this engine. If my car fails at 19,000 miles what is to say other failures are not related.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

I was having issues where accelerating was difficult for a couple weeks. Then I was going 70 on the highway and began dropping speed quickly (down to 30 mph within 30 seconds). I was pressing on the gas and nothing was happening. My check engine light turned on and the wrench light showed up, my screen when black and I had to pull over, felt like car stalled. Turned car off and then back on to try to get somewhere safer. Far would not go over 20 pulled into parking spot and breaks didn’t work. Got towed to my family mechanic and he drove it and said the same thing happened (he thought it was electric so send me to ford dealer). Dealer could not find anything wrong except a software update was needed. Problem was resolved but I found it hard to believe that was it. Fast forward 10 months later same thing happens. Lights turned on then off. Auto stop/start no longer working. Car feels like it is struggling to accelerate again and once I’m up to the intended speed it seems like it doesn’t want to change gears. Car basically seems like it is driving all wrong.
