2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. 116.2K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 29, 2019
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015-2016 Ford Edge, and 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.

Potential Risk:
If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. If any of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Cost to repair is $8,600.00!!!!!! Ford dealer says it is a manufacturer defect.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that vehicle had failed to accelerate upon a cold start as the check engine light appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic where they diagnosed a crack in cylinder #1 which caused coolant to leak into the engine. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and the diagnostic result was confirmed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the manufacturer agreed to cover a portion of the repair. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

Potential Consequences:

I have issue with brake hoses rupture while driving and loose brake capability (as Ford did not include all VINs affected I had to paid for repair, now they issue Customer Satisfaction Program 22N02 and they do not want to refund). NHTSA must make sure Ford is responsible for their issues on a safety topic as they are clearly not being.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

In September/October of 2022 my passenger side right real break line ruptured. Not even a month later my front right brake line ruptured. Today my left rear brake line ruptured. All 3 times my pedal went to the floor, making it dangerously difficult to actually stop my car endangering my life and the lives of those around me on the road. No light has come on to indicate there's a problem with my braking system, any of the 3 times that this has occurred.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My 2016 Ford Edge Titanium had a blown brake line so I took it in for repairs which is where I discovered that there was a head gasket leak and that the coolant reservoir was empty, and the axil was leaking. There were no puddles or other obvious indicators that there was anything wrong with the head gasket. No engine lights/codes were showing up. The mechanic at the Ford Dealership quoted me $5k to fix the head gasket and $10k for all of the repairs to include the brake line and 4 new tires. I have owned this car for 4 years and have had it serviced regularly.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

A 3nd flexible brake line blew out and I lost my brakes for the 3nd time on this vehicle. The first two lines that blew out were both left and right front. This 3rd one was in the rear and as a result I instructed my mechanic to replace both rear lines. Again and luckily no one was injured or crash occurred as a result of this failure which put my wife and I at a great risk. We were able to slowly and carefully bring the car to our mechanic immediately thus no tow was required. No police or first responders were needed. There was no indication of failure until the brake pedal went immediately all the way to the floor. This is my third filing report and the story is the same for the prior cases of 11512958 and 11512963.

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH and turning into a parking lot, the contact depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact applied an excessive amount of pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal went to the floorboard before the vehicle stopped. The contact continued driving to the residence. After parking the vehicle, the low brake fluid warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to add brake fluid and became aware that the fluid level was not low. The contact noticed that the brake was still malfunctioning. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and noticed and became aware that there was brake fluid underneath the rear of the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed that the brake hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer confirmed that the failure was like NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
