Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The check engine light came on so I took it to do a diagnostic test and it said that it was a miss fire and the description came back that the spark plugs and coils needed to be replaced. Was able to replace them and the check engine light turned off. While sitting in a drive through with my 3 children in the car, the warning lights came on notifying that the engine was over heating. Went straight to a mechanic and they said that I had zero coolant in the car. They added coolant and I went about the day. 3 weeks later I turned on the car and after 10 minutes the warning lights came on that it was over heating again. Was able to get home and looked under the hood and the coolant was totally gone again.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I have on my car for about a year now and when I first received it about a month into it I noticed this first issue. I would be driving and all the sudden I would loose acceleration. All dash lights that could come on did. This includes BLIS system failure. Transmission failure. Engine coolant temp failure. Traction control failure. Etc etc. The vehicle enters a limp mode I believe, and in doing so it very harshly shifts down through the transmission gears as I am slowing down. This happened a second time a month after the first incident as I was entering a highway between a bridge where I only had half my car width of space to pull over on both sides. In a blind bend, in a very dangerous place to pull over. I switched to 93 octane in hopes this would fix the issue, and for 6-8 months I haven't had that issue again. Until yesterday. I went to try to pass somebody in a passing zone when my vehicle did exactly as listed above. At this point I firmly believe it has something to do with the ECU, the brains of the car as I think this is the only thing that can tie all the errors together (it’s literally every warning I can think of). Ive taken it to Ford twice now for this issue, and will be inquiring about this again when I get my inspection on Saturday. They stated there is absolutely no data that points them anywhere when they check the stored codes. Even though there was a check engine light. This even further leads me to believe its an ECU issue, as it maybe errors out and is unable to store any codes. Over all its a serious safety issue that no ford dealer is able to diagnose for me. Googling leads me to the FordEdgeForum where other people are experiencing the same issue but without a full solution as its such an intermediate problem and cannot be easily duplicated.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Head gasket failure. Began around 4/13/2022 at mileage 63,988. Was confirmed by Spirit Ford Dundee,Michigan via scope down a piston chamber to detect fluid. Vehicle coolant dropped down to where heat output was affected. Had white plumes from exhaust. Believe this was premature for this type of failure. Elected to have repair at Tanner Automotive Adrian,Michigan. See attached invoice for $2,270.61. Am not interested in compensation. Discussed this with Ford who declined. Simply wish to make record as Ford is aware of this issue; otherwise they would not have issued tech service bulletin for same.If NHTSA issues recall for same; would then participate in all benefits deemed by NHTSA. Vehicle is titled in my wife's name: Sheila Bork Bowman 10550 Pentecost Hwy, Onsted,Mi.49265

Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Car's brakes went to floor when engaged. Driver pumped them several times to slow car. Engine light came on; took car to mechanic and brake repair was made, but engine light kept appearing. Then the car would not crank and was towed to the mechanic and the battery was replaced. Finally, the car's body/wheels appeared to be shaking when driving and the engine light appeared again. Car was taken to a Ford repair center where service department informed us that the engine needed to be replaced due to coolant leak. The car is driveable but unsafe and requires expensive engine replacement. After doing research, this appears to be a well known problem with the Ford Edge and consumers aren't receiving adequate information about the extent of the problem or safety concerns. A recall needs to be issued for this defect and Ford needs to take responsibility to fix the problem.
