Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
I started seeing a Check Engine light (CEL) on the dash of my 2018 Ford Edge Titanium (approx. 95k miles) and also noticed that the car was misfiring during acceleration. I took the car to a mechanic who found error code P0303. The mechanic subsequently found a cracked spark plug in the 3rd cylinder and I directed them to replace all 4 spark plugs. CEL came back within a week (verified same code) and so I replaced all 4 firing coils but the CEL still came back (this time flashing). After taking the car into a local Ford Dealer for service, I was informed by dealer that the car fell under TSB 11-2229 (leaking coolant into cylinders) and that the only recourse was to replace the engine block. The leaking coolant could have caused the car to seize up while in operation (I believe this is why the CEL was flashing instead of steady on) and that if I was at highway speeds when the engine seized then this would have been catastrophic.
