Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The engine began having a misfire around 58k miles and low coolant levels. No coolant drips or leaks were detected on the exterior. After some research I found that the 2.0 Ecoboost used in these vehicles is prone to coolant intrusion due to a defective engine block. After a trip the car unexpectedly would not start, it would crank over but it would not start. After sending it to my dealer they confirmed coolant intrusion and explained the car needed a new engine. The car was bought certified used, every service was done on time at a Ford dealer. There was no way to avoid the defective engine in this car, no amount of preventative maintenance would stop this from happening. Ford has a bulletin out on these engines, so they know there's an issue. There's no reason for a low mileage well cared for vehicle to need a replacement engine at 60k miles.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

While driving vehicle on [XXX] Ocala, FL engine spontaneously overheated, which caused an immediate loss of engine power and a temporary loss of directional control as the power steering no longer functioned. I had the vehicle first towed to my house, and then had it towed to Gary Yeomans Ford Ocala. Their diagnosis led them to insist that coolant is intruding into the cylinder through the block itself, and the recommended course of action (under a very well known TSB) is to replace the long-block assembly. Ford is refusing to acknowledge this is a serious manufacturing defect that impacts customer safety, exposing the driver and the driving public to the possibility of an engine fire due to overheating, an accident due to inability to maintain directional control of the vehicle in an overheat scenario, and myriad other potential life-safety issues. Ford is making zero effort to assist their customers - a long block and assembly is almost $8000 - I barely had the money to make the payments and this may very well send me into bankruptcy. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Faulty engine design (thin wall between coolant chamber and cylinders) allows for coolant to enter the cylinders. This leads to an overheating engine (that can catch fire) and ultimately creates a blown head gasket. This is a common issue in the Ford EcoBoost engines. There is a TSB on the 1.5 liter engines, but not the 2.0 on this model. There is currently a large lawsuit happening for this reason. Vehicles with under 60k miles are getting blown engines for this problem, most people still owe several thousand dollars on their vehicle when this happens.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Brought vehicle to dealership for service on a shifter boot recall. The check engine light first came on when we gave the vehicle to the Dealership, and they said there was a misfire on Cylinder #2. Due to this, the entire engine was replaced with 85,000 miles as per a Technical Service Bulletin. This damage was due to a defective design and luckily, we did work with Ford corporate to get the price down since the vehicle was out of warranty. Never had any signs of an issue until one day in April 2024 when the engine started running rough when started up in the driveway. It was rocking the vehicle side to side. Just received the vehicle back this week with a new engine. Please let me know if any additional information is needed.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My check engine light came on but it was driving fine and we checked all of the fluids and everything was okay and the light went off and then two days later I had a alert pop up while driving that my engine was hot and overheating pull over to find that I have no coolant randomly and we don’t know where it’s going. Had it looked at and they couldn’t figure out where it was going either. Two weeks pass and I’m driving on the highway and my car starts shaking and the check engine light is flashing while white smoke is blowing out from exhaust and from under my hood and had to call 911 because I thought my car had caught fire. Pulled over to find all of my oil all under my car and all on the ground. Had the car towed back home so I could take it to the shop as the incident happened on Memorial Day. The shop looked at it and figured it was my head gasket valve covers so I had that replaced just for oil to still be leaking and now come to find out that it’s seaming to be my cylinder has gone out along with multiple other issues. Finding out that ford knows about this issue with these vehicles irritates me even more. The car is still in shops a month later.
