Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Transit vehicles. An incorrect driveshaft torsional damper service kit may have been installed, which can allow the damper shield to contact the parking brake cable, possibly resulting in parking brake failure.

Potential Risk:
Parking brake failure can result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the passenger side parking brake cable with a cable that provides sufficient clearance to the damper shield, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on September 24, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 14, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S39.

LA West Inc. (LA West) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Ford Transit vehicles modified to be equipped with glass roof hatches. Temperature and vibration stresses may cause the tempered glass roof hatch to shatter.

Potential Risk:
If the tempered glass roof hatch shatters, glass fragments may fall onto passengers, increasing the risk of an injury.
FREE Recall Solution:

XL Hybrids, Inc (XL) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Transit vehicles modified to be equipped with XL's electric hybrid system. The cardan (universal) joint on the front driveshaft may fail, possibly causing the front driveshaft to detach.

Potential Risk:
If the front driveshaft detaches from the vehicle, drive power will be lost, increasing the risk of a crash. The detached driveshaft may also create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash for following traffic.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Transit. The contact stated that while slowly driving into a parking space, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and crashed into another parked vehicle. During the incident, the brake pedal was pressed, but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. No injuries were reported and a police report was taken at the scene. Also, the vehicle later experienced the same failure. While attempting to park the vehicle again experienced unintended acceleration and drove forward, crashing into a second vehicle. During the crash, the two front occupants of the second vehicle had sustained undisclosed injuries that later required medical treatment. No further information was available. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the second failure. The contact owns a 2018 Ford Transit. The contact stated while driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle suddenly started losing power, after driving over 200 yards, the vehicle became inoperable. The check engine and service engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact merged to the side of the road as a ramp was coming up and called AAA. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with a timing chain and engine failure. The contact was informed by the dealer of an extended warranty; however, the warranty had expired two days prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The engine was replaced with a used engine, new timing chain, new gaskets, engine oil, water pump, rear sealant, coolant, and spark plugs. The vehicle was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 156,206.

Defect Description:

WHEELS

Potential Consequences:

I was driving on a rural highway 55 mph when I heard a pop! I lost control and veered into oncoming traffic! I slowed down by tapping brakes and ended up back on the right side in the shoulder/ditch. The shoulder had new gravel so it slowed me down and grabbed a hold of what was left. Found the wheel out in the ditch a good ways from the car and also three lug nuts with bolts still attached and broken at the base in the stretch from the turn off to where the car stopped. Also found my brake pad near a lug nut in the median! Bolts completely broken at the base with lug nuts still attached. Wheel completely fine just not on car. Inside rim gouged out from riding on it after the bolts broke. Found a recall on Ford Transit for the 2019 version of this vehicle for the exact same problem. But since this is a 2018 Ford will not honor it. Cause appears to be a weakness in the alloy used which warps over time and then without warning causing the bolts to brake at the base and separate wheel from vehicle.

I was driving on a rural highway 55 mph when I heard a pop! I lost control and veered into oncoming traffic! I slowed down by tapping brakes and ended up back on the right side in the shoulder/ditch. Found the wheel out in the ditch a good ways from the car and also three lug nuts with bolts still attached and broken at the base in the stretch from the turn off to where the car stopped. About 6 months ago my rear camera is not working properly, sometimes the screen is dark or the view is real fuzzy hard to see cars when backing up. I called Ford corporation to see if this has a recall , but no such luck. They did file a complaint form of the issue. Will let me know when there is a recall. I'm worried that someday i'm going to back up and hit a car or a person, Also i do use this van for work to transport people. Its hard to see with a large full size transit van. I called Ford corporation to see if this has a recall , but no such luck. They did file a complaint form of the issue. Will let me know when there is a recall. I'm worried that someday i'm going to back up and hit a car or a person, Also i do use this van for work to transport people. Its hard to see with a large full size transit van. I think this should be a recall for these transit vans its decently a safety problem. Please let me know. Potential Consequences:

We was going to a week long camp.The individual in the front passenger seat said to the driver that he was not feeling good and told the driver that he was going to take a nap. Before he laid back he looked in the back of the van to check on the kids. As he looked back one kid appeared to be having a seizure. So the driver immediately pulled over. I was following in another van. So I pulled over and went up to the van to see what the issue was and opened the side door. The kids was all hanging there heads sick and vomiting.We hurried and called 911 for help.When the medics got there they informed us of carbon monoxide poisoning. So we took the van to the next town and dropped the van off at the dealership and had to rent another van to go on with our trip. So on our way back home we picked the van back up from the dealership. It was after hours so we called ahead and paid for the repair. They replaced the rear door seal. How ever before we picked it up we purchased a co detector to put in the van. We went a very short distance and the alarm went off. so we had to travel the rest of the way home with the windows down approximately 10 hours. We now have the van at another dealership back closer to home. the dealership is now telling us there is a plug missing under the van and that we need to buy a tail pipe extension that ford has designed to get the exhaust fumes out from under the van. they are also telling us that the vehicle will not pass a state safety inspection with it dumping the exhaust fumes under the van and this will be repaired at our expense. Now my question is if there was not a design flaw why did Ford design a tail pipe extension? Also as i drive down the road I notice all the newer van have an extended tail pipe. Also would the tail pie not be part of the emissions and if it is why would this not be covered by the 8 year 80000 mile emissions warranty? this is a very serious situation. As we talked to a phyishion she said we was minutes from death

The cam phasers started giving us issues at 47,000 miles. At the time, Ford told us this was a normal thing with these vehicles and there was no concern. Now that I am at 103,000 miles, the phasers have gotten a lot worse where the vehicle stalls and misfires, along with a loud rattle at startup. Ford will not replace them under warranty now that I am out of warranty, even though I brought the vehicle in while it was in warranty and was told it was normal. This is an extremely common issue with the 3.5L Ecoboost engine, and something needs to be done about it. Ford already has a warranty extension program for the F150. They need to extend that to the other vehicles with the same engine that have the exact same defect.
