POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Today on 24 December 2024, I was driving my 3 month newly bought Honda ACCORD SPORT HYBRID vin [XXX] from Tulsa Oklahoma to Dallas Texas when the car broke down suddenly in the middle of highway. It reported sudden power train system and all advanced feature failures and asked me to halt immediately or safely and started reducing the speed in the middle of driving at 65 miles hour. I had to park urgently on shoulder on I 75 S and it was very risky considering high speed traffic flowing. I think it was a great safety risk INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

After about twenty minutes of driving I start having sticking steering. Around 65-70mph it starts getting difficult to keep the car in a straight line as it drifts to the left or the right. It doesn't matter if lane keep/ lane departure is on or off. When I'm able to get the car to turn it jolts to one side or the other, and then I need to constantly correct the car. As snow and slippery conditions are just about here the chances of losing control is extremely enhanced. The car is in the dealership currently without the chance of being looked at yet. As a automotive technician for the past 19 years I can confirm the complaint. No warning lights are on. The car is available to be inspected if needed.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

2023 and 2024 Hybrid Accord vehicles liberally activate brake lights while cruise control is active under even the slightest level of deceleration creating an appearance of a “brake check” when there is no brake check. A traditional car’s cruise control, for instance when set to 60MPH allows you to depress the accelerator, speed up to 65MPH to pass a vehicle, and then release the accelerator. The car then slows down naturally and begins controlling at 60MPH. The deceleration is gentle and the brakes are not applied and the brake lights do not illuminate. The accord hybrid under the same conditions will apply some level of regeneration to slow the vehicle and also activate the brake light to vehicles behind. While it’s understandable that the brake light would be illuminated if substantial regeneration is being applied, the brake light illuminates under even the slightest deceleration creating an unnecessary hazard. This can occur if the car is slowing down from only 2MPH above the set point. Brake lights illuminate although the amount of regeneration being applied is negligible. It can also happen coming over the crest of a hill on a gentle downslope even with no prior depression of the accelerator. This is a serious deficiency and incorrect behavior. The brake lights should only illuminate under substantial regeneration or application of the brake pedal.
