FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

There has been a recall for fuel pumps. Our car doesn’t fall under the group being recalled. Our accord has been having the same issue. It will stop running when driving. It has happened twice in the last few months. I would like to see if there could be another group with the problem and have not been recalled yet. Our Honda dealership has diagnosed it with a fuel pump problem.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Potential Consequences:

1) The bottom portion of the DRL LED strip in the driver's side headlight is no longer working. I can send pictures upon request. 2) There is an NHTSA service bulletin (19-042) for 2017 Honda Accord Hybrids (all trim levels), but Honda says my VIN isn't included in this bulletin. Even though my 2017 Accord Hybrid has the same failure as the vehicles included in bulletin. A Honda representative told me to report my issue to the NHTSA and ask that my VIN be included in this bulletin. 3) I have not taken the vehicle in for inspection because I found that this is a known, common issue for my car make, model, and year.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

The contact owned a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the steering wheel locked in place without warning veering to the right direction, and crashed into a highway guardrail. The air bags did not deploy and the contact did not seek immediate medical attention; however, the contact suffered of headaches days after the accident. The contact later discovered that she had suffered a concussion after an unrelated MRI scan was performed. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that there were no recalls associated with the VIN. The contact stated that the failure occurred an additional two times after the initial failure. The vehicle was later auctioned off after the contact could not afford to have the vehicle repaired for the damage. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

There appears to be a model-wide problem with 2017 Honda Accord audio system that manifests in screeching static noise through audio speakers (whether the radio is turned on or not) at decibels in excess of 100 (sounds like a lawnmower being operated inside a closed 4 door sedan). This noise comes with no warning (or waring lights) and shocks the senses that can cause erratic vehicle operation. Once the noise starts, it will last varying lengths of time that include in excess of 12 minutes. The only means to make it stop is by turning off the car, which is not easy or safe if highway driving. The screeching is so loud, it is impossible to hear emergency sirens or honking horns, making this a serious safety issue. This is also very distracting -- imagine a passenger screaming in your ear as loud as they can non-stop -- simply not conducive to safe driving! Honda of America acts like they have never heard of this issue (I can see that many, many 2017 Accord owners have reported this very issue over the last several years). Dealer diagnostics reveal nothing. They only recommend replacing the entire audio head unit ($4K) and owner expense. For a car that is only 7 years old, it is not working as intended. A recall seems warranted. This has been going on over a month now and is getting progressively worse. Please help us. [XXX] Please open this video to hear the problem. UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

LOUD crackling static noise coming from all stereo speakers randomly. Nothing can stop this loud static noise, except by pulling over off the road and restarting the vehicle. This happens randomly and does not matter whether you are using bluetooth or not using bluetooth, plugged in charging using USB or listening to music on phone with USB. The radio can be completely shut off and nothing playing or plugged in and it will start with decibels so loud it is dangerous to adults and children's hearing and again can only be stopped by pulling off the road and restarting the vehicle, the silence of static may only last a few minutes to an hour but will start again every single time I drive my 17 Accord. There are many forums out there with 17 Honda Accord owners having the same issue. I believe Honda has addressed the Pilot, Odyssey, ridgeline etc. models for infotainment problems, but I really think they should address the 2017 Accord also, this is impossible to drive this Accord to anywhere of distance.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

Potential Consequences:

The problem with the LKAS manifests in the following ways: The system unexpectedly disengages without warning, failing to provide lane-keeping assistance. Erratic steering corrections occur even when the vehicle is properly centered in the lane, causing instability. The system frequently displays error messages indicating LKAS failure, requiring manual intervention to reset or disable the feature. At times, the system does not activate as intended, even when road conditions and markings are clear and well-defined. I have attempted to troubleshoot the issue by ensuring that the vehicle’s sensors and cameras are clean and unobstructed. However, the problem persists. I have also reported the issue to a Honda dealership, but they have not been able to provide a definitive resolution. This malfunction creates a serious safety concern, as an unpredictable LKAS system can lead to unintentional lane drifting or sudden corrective actions that may startle the driver or lead to a loss of control. Given that LKAS is a key component of Honda's driver-assistance technology, I believe this issue warrants further investigation by NHTSA to determine whether it constitutes a broader defect in the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid model. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter and determine if similar complaints have been reported. If this issue is determined to be a widespread defect, I urge NHTSA to take appropriate action, including a potential recall or mandatory software update from Honda. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I would appreciate any updates regarding your findings and any further steps I should take. Please feel free to contact me at the information provided above.

Additional Notes:

The problem with the LKAS manifests in the following ways: The system unexpectedly disengages without warning, failing to provide lane-keeping assistance. Erratic steering corrections occur even when the vehicle is properly centered in the lane, causing instability. The system frequently displays error messages indicating LKAS failure, requiring manual intervention to reset or disable the feature. At times, the system does not activate as intended, even when road conditions and markings are clear and well-defined. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

In 2017, I purchased my vehicle brand new from Honda of Union City. A few years later there was a fuel pump recall on my car. I made numerous attempts, phone calls and visits to 3 known honda dealers in Atlanta, GA. I kept getting the runaround, no parts or always something to avoid fixing my car. I called months ago to ask why I never received a letter from honda about the recall and the parts. I was told that my car was fixed by honda of Union City and the case was closed in 2019. However, I have documentation showing the recall was opened until 2023. My car was never fixed, I didn't see or sign any paperwork from Honda.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

After driving for about 20 -30 minutes there is a very, very loud noise that appears to come from the stereo speakers (even if the stereo system isn’t on). It is so loud that I do not hear emergency personnel coming. It has been several occasions that an accident is almost caused because of not being able to hear police or ambulance sirens. It just started happening out of nowhere. I have all factory equipment on the vehicle so I’m not sure why this is happening. Honda really need to fix this before there are fatalities.

Potential Consequences:

On Friday, [XXX], while leaving a McDonald’s in Charlotte, NC, my car began to slow down and for different lights came on on my dashboard. I was unable to go over 45 miles per hour but was able to get my car to my sisters home that was a few miles away from where I started having car trouble. I was able to have the car towed to Hendrick Honda in Charlotte NC where they determined my car’s high pressure fuel pump went out. There are recalls on other 2017 Honda Accords but not mine. I get routine oil changes and have never had an issue like this before. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6

Potential Consequences:

There is a VERY loud noise, static-like noise that is coming from my speakers. It won't stop if I turn the stereo off. When the temperature is high from either the outside weather or the heater, it seems to happen then. It now does it all the time if I've been driving for about 20mins. Everything is stock in my car and not modified. There are no warning lights, I have not taken it in to have it looked at yet. I've read that others have had the exact same issue with this model.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

2017 Honda Accord first noticed a tachometer that at town/hwy speeds would fluctuate a few rpm (surge and reduce) going down the road. Took to Honda dealer and they stated flushing the transmission fluid and to do so every 30K and have continued to do so, the surge and reduce subsided but, we also notice a loud cold start tic in the engine. After starting up cold, and engaging in drive the vehicle jerks and feels to stall suddenly causing forward motion of driver to the extent that the seat belt locks until the engine is normal temperature. This is a major problem in traffic with other vehicles around for your car to suddenly jerk back and may even cause rear end accidents from other vehicles behind putting driver and surrounding vehicles/drivers at risk for an accident. This tic and jerking in this 2017 Honda Accord V6 EX-L started at around 120K miles and has continued to tic and jerk until the engine is a normal temperature Tac surge/reduce has not been as prevalent with transmission fluid flushing. When vehicle is up to full temp the tic and jerking subside until normal temp the jerking/stalling continues at any rate of speed. There have been no warning lamps or messages since the onset of this problem. This 2017 Accord currently has 150K
