POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The vehicle's transmission has been continously shifting erratically, where shift intervals do not correspond with engine speed and or vehicle speed. The pattern is so erratic that the transmission causes a very strong jolting or surging motion and loud thudding sound. I have checked on fluid level and found the level within required standards. I bought the vehicle on 7/13/2023. The Dealer never disclosed any transmission issues. I have been observing this issue from 7/18/2023 to the present. It has since, been progressively constant and is a safety issue, where the vehicle could break down when operated in high traffic areas that require speeds up to 65 mph. Collisions due to stalling or surging from this vehicle would be catastrophic and include multiple deaths or injury.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

The motor that raises and lowers the rear liftgate failed and has been repaired already at a Honda Dealership. The van is not even 5 years old yet and the motor failing caused the lift gate to droop after opening causing my wife and I to bang our heads on it if we weren't watching for it. The more important safety concern is if the liftgate lowers to a certain point, the motor causes it to bounce up and down slightly and then automatically close. My concern for the safety of my young children made me get it repaired promptly. The honda dealership did confirm that the motor failed and it caused strain on the right strut as well need it to be replaced as well. There were no warning lights on dash. This is a youtube link to someone else with the same van and year with the same problem. This is what my van was doing. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

For over a year, when ever I press on the gas to accelarate the car stalls and this is very dangerous as it could cause an accident. It is not related to being low on gas as it happens even the the tank if full. The most recent issue happened yesterday. I was on a stop sign, and when I pressed the gas to go, the car moved forward a bit and then it stalled, leaving me on the middle of the intersection about to get hit by upcoming traffic. I was able to press the gas a couple of time and get car moving, but I was about to get him. A few weeks ago, again I had a similar situation. I was at a red light, and when I pressed on the gas, my car stall and wouldnt move, causing everyone behind me to honk their horns. I once again then to press the gas a couple of time for car to move. In addition, a few weeks ago, I was yieling to enter a highway, and when I press the gass to speed up and enter it, the car once again stall and was about to get hit by upcoming traffic. The issue is not related to gas tank, as I just recently had that replace after it suddently rip. Not sure how that happen, maybe another think to consider looking into. When I advised the dealership of such, they said stalling is normal due to type of engine. There is nothing normal of putting your life at risk. This is an accident waiting to happen.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

My vehicle suddenly slammed on the brakes with no warning. The “brake” light for the emergency braking system began flashing at the same time the car began a hard brake. It came to a complete stop in the middle of an intersection and I had absolutely no control over the vehicle. I was very fortunate that it didn’t cause a collision but it came very close. I don’t see how this is a safety feature, it’s incredibly dangerous. The only way to turn it off is to remember to turn it off every time you start the car. Absurd.

Van had srs code on from when bought by original owner. I bought van recently and tried to fix the issue I had the airbag replaced and the error went on a few days later. While looking into the issue I spoke to a few mechanic's who have both seen this issue with other vans with the same make and model. In those cases also it didnt help with replacing the airbags. There seems to be a real issue here but there isnt yet a recall.

Transmission has completely died. We were traveling on vacation when this happened. Started with very rough gear shifting. Our safety was at risk because random warnings then came up on the screen such as cruise control not working, brake assist. Car would not drive normal. Check engine light never came on. The car was towed to the local honda dealership who confirmed it needs a new transmission. We just purchased this car 3 months ago. They inspected it before selling and stated everything was fine.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

I have a 2019 Odyssey Elite and the following lights come on: Adaptive cruise control problem (ACC); Auto high-beam problem (A); Road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (LKAS); brake system lights. My problem is intermittent. I can make it go away most of the time by pouring water over the camera or spraying it from the windshield wipers fluid, then turning the car off and back on. That works sometimes. This makes me think it may be due to heat as the windshield (especially the black web lines around the camera) gets very hot. I also have noticed that at night or in cooler parts of the day the lights do not come on most of the time (have not kept a log of problem yet). One problem could be heat but cooling off with water does not always work. In that case, I lightly tap the camera case with a small rubber hammer (it is locate in front of my rear view mirror), turn the car off and back on, and the lights go out. Water plus tapping works and sometimes tapping alone works. This makes me theorize that the weather (heat in my case but I have seen other say it is cold due to snow) causes the cable/wiring within the camera to loosen (meaning weather [heat or cold] sensitive) cable connectors. Thus cooling with water and or light tapping fixes the problem until the next episode occurs. Who knows it could even be the windshield glass. As I said earlier, there is a black webbing type glass etching around the camera. Some say it is the battery, but I have yet to see a post where changing the battery fixed the problem. When the lights are off, all safety features (mitigation, adaptive cruise control, cruise control) work. I assume auto high beam and brakes system will work also. Forgot to add that when I turn the car off and back on, I have to press enter on the steering wheel a couple of times before the lights go off.

Additional Notes:

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

When stopped at an intersection, waiting to turn left, vehicle sometimes will not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. If I do a very light acceleration, then let go of the gas, then try to accelerate, it is as if the transmission is in 5 gear or something. After a 3-4 second lag, the vehicle will then seemingly find 1st gear, and will accelerate. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous if making a left turn and cars are speeding towards me. I push the gas pedal, but the car does not move, meanwhile cars are getting closer to me, and cars behind me are honking. I have taken the car to Honda dealer three times for this issue. Each time they do something to "fix" the problem, and each time, the problem persists.
