Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I am reporting a serious safety concern regarding my 2019 Honda Odyssey, which poses a risk to me and my family. The issue is intermittent, making it difficult for the dealership to replicate. The problem began when the Collision Mitigation System warning light flashed, indicating a system malfunction. This was followed by multiple warning lights appearing on the dashboard. At times, the entire dashboard and screen go blank, and all gauges shut off while I am driving on both city streets and highways-though the engine remains on. Additionally, I have experienced the following issues: The steering wheel stiffness when making turns, the vehicle hesitates to accelerate after being at a stop. In December 2023, I took the vehicle to a Honda Dealership, where they recommended replacing the front camera/sensor (behind the rear mirror) at a cost of over $1,500.00. I proceeded with the repair in December 2023. However, the same issues returned in January 2025. This defect poses a severe safety risk, especially when driving at higher speeds or in traffic. Since the dealership has been unable to diagnose the issue due to its sporadic nature, I am requesting an investigation into this matter to determine if other owners are experiencing similar safety risks. Thank you for your time and attention to this issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The camera sensor in my 2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L failed due to excessive overheating. The sensor reached extreme temperatures, leading to a complete system failure. As a result, the vehicle became inoperable. The failed component is no longer available for inspection as I was forced to purchase a replacement due to the vehicle’s dependency on it for proper function. The failure of the camera sensor created multiple dangerous situations: Loss of vehicle control: The vehicle lost acceleration functionality and automatically shut itself down, which could have led to a crash in traffic.Dashboard warning lights: All dashboard lights illuminated simultaneously, indicating a severe system failure. Fire hazard: The sensor was emitting extreme heat, creating a potential fire risk due to overheating electronics. Exposure to the elements: The sensor’s placement in direct sunlight likely contributed to its overheating, further increasing the risk of failure. Mandatory dependency on the sensor: The vehicle was rendered inoperable without the functioning sensor, leaving me without a safe means of transportation. A Honda dealership inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the sensor had failed due to overheating. However, they stated that the cost of replacement, installation, and recalibration would be my financial responsibility. The issue was evaluated by a Honda dealership, but no manufacturer action was taken to address the failure beyond suggesting an expensive repair. All dashboard warning lights illuminated simultaneously. Loss of acceleration control occurred before the vehicle shut down automatically. The sensor was emitting extreme heat prior to the failure. The issue persisted after restarting the vehicle—after a 10-minute cooldown, the vehicle restarted but failed again after 3-5 minutes. This malfunction was not only a significant inconvenience but a major safety hazard. The sensor’s location makes it highly susceptible to overheating.

Several warning lights turned on. Emissions system problem, transmission system problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, power steering system (EPS) problem, vehicle stability assist (VSA) problem, hill start assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, blind spot info system problem. Steering becomes really difficult, reverse and forward gives out and really hard to control vehicle. Not able to accelerate. This problem happened out of nowhere no issues prior to the lights coming on. This has been happening for the past 8 months i have to unplug the battery so the codes erase and the car starts driving normal then 2 days later they come back and car wont accelerate or would have hard time picking up speed I researched and other owners of similar vehicles have the same issues as mines.
