FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
In 2021, my 2016 Honda Pilot had routinely had restart issues from when going idle at stop. In some situations, it simply would not start again and had to be jumped off. I ended up getting the battery replaced multiple times, but on [XXX] I went to my vehicle to start up and it was dead yet again. I then hooked up a jumper and the vehicle instantly started smoking from under the motor. Within 20 seconds, fire had started under the hood and it caused extreme damage to my home. The car was also destroyed. There seemed to be some sort of electrical system issue. I was able to get my 1 year old daughter safely away and nobody was hurt. However, this caused extreme losses. Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Our 2016 Honda Pilot stopped working at a busy intersection stoplight due to engine failure. Thank God no one plowed into the vehicle. If it was on the highway it could have been catastrophic. We had it towed to our local Honda dealer. They told us it would be $1000k in a diagnostic fee to take apart the engine to determine what was wrong. It was a connecting Rod bearing failure. There is a recall dated March 8th, 2024 for our 2016 Honda Pilot except our VIN number isn't included in the recall. It states "may have engines containing internal damage at the connecting rod bearings, possibly leading to engine failure." Our Honda dealer confirmed that this is what happened to our engine. On the [XXX] " website I found many others have had the same problem. They paid $8000 or $9000 to replace the engine. There is talk of a class action lawsuit on this thread. We were quoted $15000 to replace our engine by the dealer. Honda headquarters says they will pay 20 percent of the cost. This means we would owe 11,000 for a new engine on a vehicle priced out to be valued at around $15,000 on KBB.com. We should have a working SUV that is worth 15,000, but unless we pay 11,000 it is now worthless. Honda Motor Corporation must do the right thing and expand the recall to all of the vehicles affected. I filed a case complaint with Honda Motor Corp. but they said someone in the engineering dept would review it, but he has no idea when. We have 3 drivers in our house and now are down to one SUV because our Honda Pilot has no engine. The damages are many: My teenage son was driving and could have been killed when the engine stopped working. The dealer is asking us to pay 11,000 in repairs for a known manufacturing defect covered by a recall. We don't have 11,000 to pay for a new engine. We should have 15000 of value left in our Honda Pilot, but without an engine it is now worthless. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Car started displaying "Keyless start system problem". I changed both batteries in the key fobs, but it continued. After about 2 weeks of this, the car would not start. Just clicking and flickering of lights and gauges. Would not jump off or anything, so I had to tow it home. After researching it and checking the brake light switch to make sure it was still operational, and after purchasing and installing a new start/stop button, I decided to get a new battery. I took the old battery in and they said it was good, but I still got another one and installed it. The car started up and has been working for about 4 weeks, but now the same message is popping up again. I am worried that my wife will drive it somewhere and get stranded. I have seen that there are recalls on this on some of the Honda sites, but can't find it anywhere else. This needs to be addressed as it seems like a lot of people are reporting the same issue.

Potential Consequences:
A few years ago, I reported a problem with my car's auto idle stopping, causing the car to stall, and taking a few minutes to restart. Honda offered to update my software to fix this issue, which I did last March. Today, driving, the car stalled again. The issue has not been fixed with the software update. Again, after stalling, the car needed to be put in park and started again. This took a few minutes. I was in traffic, and numerous cars behind me honked and were frustrated. A few weeks ago, we drove the car on a very slow, crowded freeway. I was extremely concerned the same thing would happen. I have three teen drivers. We were so concerned about this issue that we purchased a new car for them (we would not have otherwise). This cost us a significant amount of money. I am anxious each time I drive our Pilot. I am concerned that some day someone will rear end me, or I will encounter road rage over not being able to move when cars are lined up behind me. Please, please require Honda to deactivate the auto idle feature or recall this vehicle. I do not feel comfortable selling it to someone else, but really don't want to drive it. Thank you.

Potential Consequences:
On several occasions in 2024 1 - 2 months apart I have been stopped at a light in my 2016 Honda Pilot I have around 150,000 miles on it. The car will stall out and I can barely make it to the side of the road. All the dashboard lights come on Vehicle Stability Assist Problem, Power Steering System Problem, Emissions System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Trailer Stability Assist Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem. I had the Catalytic Converters changed about 2 months ago at a cost of $3,000 and this is still happening. Once the battery is disconnected the codes go away and the car drives fine for a while, but not this last time. We had AAA come out and put a new battery, they AAA service drove off, I pulled out 3 feet and the car cut off again and all the lights came back on and the car would not move.

The seat belt on the driver's side is too short. I can barely get it to fasten and when I do I have no ability to move. I can't lean forward to look for traffic, light changes, etc. This seems to be a problem as I went on a Honda forum and others experience the same issue.

When I reach interstate speeds the hood starts to rattle and makes a very loud noise. It shakes as if it is going to come open. It also does then when I am behind a large tractor-trailer where the wind coming off whips the front of my care. I have checked to see if the hood needed a height adjustment but that isn't the issue. It is up as far as it can go and if I lower it any it gets even worse.

2016 Pilot has an annoying issue. When it is turned off, the panel lights flicker. You can hear the relays clicking behind the panel. The headlights come on. Often the car alarm randomly goes off. They want to charge us $800 to replace the Keyless control unit. and nothing was resolved with this issue. It seems they are just throwing darts at possible solutions. They won't guarantee this will fixe the issue. They will not refund us the $800 if this part isn't even a problem ;-( To our knowledge, we don't think we have had the issue occur when the car is unlocked. It doesn't happen every time the car is locked
