Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Santa Fe, Santa Fe HEV, Elantra, Elantra HEV and 2022 Elantra N and Santa Fe PHEV vehicles. Due to a damaged printed circuit board, the rearview camera image may fail to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Potential Risk:
A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's visibility and increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 14, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 271.

Potential Consequences:

The horn has malfunctioned. It stopped working today for the first 10-15 minutes of my driving and this poses as a safety concern as I was not able to communicate with other drivers. After 15 minutes the horn started picking up but it sounded faint. It does not sound nearly as loud or the same sound. I am worried the horn will stop working again. It is not making the same noises it usually does. Currently there are no warning lights on the dash regarding this. I am also seeing in social media communities that other Elantra drivers are facing the exact same issue and this poses a safety concern. If the horn stops working while driving in the highway or even local roads and we are unable to connivance with drivers it can cause or fail to prevent accidents.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

My daughter was driving the car to work. The car accelerated even thou her foot was lightly placed on the gas pedal, it was like pressing the gas pedal to race the car. This happened 4 times on her 4.5 mile drive to work. When she was turning into the parking lot, she had her foot on the brake and the car accelerated again which scared her as she didnt want to crash into the cars in front. I read a lot of such complaints on the hyundai forum. I talked to the dealership service mechanics and they say that they will have to replicate it. This is the first time this has happened in the last 2 years. The contact stated that this information is incorrect and applies to their other VOQ 11525448 for their 2021 Hyundai Elantra. The 2022 Hyundai Elantra has issues with loss of power.

Potential Consequences:

Our Jiffy Lube service center performed and oil change to Hyundai Elantra. A day later customer came back with vehicle being towed. Customer stated vehicle seized for no reason. Our technicians inspected vehicle engine oil and found it to be at proper level, but vehicle was completely dead as if no power at all. Customer towed vehicle to nearest dealership, dealership states vehicle seized due to oil starvation due to improper placement of oil filter. This is a canister filter. There is no right or wrong way to place a canister oil filter. Our service center is left with a $9855 bill. Would like to know if dealership statement is true(2022 Hyundai Elantra under warranty, but denied). Please read dealership statement on third page under description.

Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:HORN

Potential Consequences:

Car horn failure. Almost had an accident. Tried to honk the horn, so that i could warn the other driver coming toward my lane, nothing, no sound at all. I swerved my car out of the way... it could have been bad if there was a car next to me. Took the car to the dealership. Verdict, they said the car horn needs to be changed. Nope, did not notice any warnings that the horn gonna malfunction. It is messed up. I hardly use the horn and yet it is broken. Isn't the horn supposed to last a while?
