Defect Description:
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
Vehicle caught fire while driving despite recall fixes. Vehicle was serviced by a dealership a week prior to the incident. While driving the ABS and other lights on the dash starting flashing, the steering was started to go out then smoke started coming into the car vents inside the vehicle. While I was not injured my only saving grace was that I was already in the left lane during rush hour traffic. The vehicle was inspected by both insurance as well as a Hyundai USA representative, the Hyundai representative would not state the cause of the incident citing "proprietary information". The vehicle is a total loss. There was not any crash involved to ignite a fire.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
On July 22nd, the duel clutch malfunctioned & caused the vehicle gear shift to no longer engage. The car does not move in Drive or Reverse. It can only be pushed in Neutral or towed. This occurred while I was driving home on the highway with no warning lights or prior symptoms indicating a potential issue. The vehicle has not yet been seen by Hyundai but they did say that since my VIN was not registered to the existing recall, there is not much they can do & any repairs would be out of pocket. It has been seen by our family mechanic, PepBoys & has currently been sitting at AAMCO with no solution as of today since August 2nd. Geico said since this is a mechanical issue & not an accident, they cannot assist. Carmax Customer Relations (where I purchased the Vehicle on March 12th, 2023) has been informed but so far offered no solutions. I am told they cannot offer much assistance due to the 90-day warranty being surpassed, extended warranty not being purchased & the current milage on the car. A case with Hyundai Customer Relations has also been opened as of today, August 15th & they are escalating the issue to their legal department as we are considering taking legal action at this point.

Potential Consequences:
Oil drain plug fell out while driving down the highway and oil drained from engine causing internal engine damage. Low oil light came on and engine stalled within seconds. No warnings or lights were on before this happened. Stuck on the side of road for an hour with my family. Had it towed to Hyundai. Tech said drain plug was laying in the skid plate. No oil left in engine. They replaced filter and filled with oil the idled the car for some time and test drove. Tech said no power and there is internal engine damage. Service rep told me to call oil change facility where serviced last. They said cause was human error so warranty will not cover repairs. My car is still sitting at the dealership. Valvoline express care last serviced 22 days and 1336 miles before the drain plug fell out. Valvoline directed me to NHTSA investigation for this issue.

Potential Consequences:
The engine started burning oil and making clanking noises. I took it to the dealership where they told me that the vehicle will need a full engine replacement. The vehicle has 76k miles and well maintained. Just out of warranty. It's unacceptable for a modern engine to have these sort of problems. And I'm not the only one. I know a lot of people have been having the same issues with this same type of vehicle.

Potential Consequences:
Starting in early 2023 my engine started consuming oil. My car only has 60,000 miles on it. It's ridiculous to do an engine consumption test because this is a known issue with a class action lawsuit having already been filed. There are numerous complaints out there about this issue and yet an engine recall has not been done. Hyundai needs forced to replace these engine NOW before someone is killed with one seizing in traffic. I just did an oil change in February. I clearly don't drive my vehicle often at all. I noticed an issue at acceleration all the sudden it would bog down and not take off. Thinking I needed to change the air filter I did just that and then the check engine light came on. I made it to an O'Reilly auto parts store with a code P0011. I checked my oil to find NOTHING on the dipstick. Second time this year this has happened.

Potential Consequences:
In March 2023 I took my car to the dealership for routine oil change and mentioned that I was having to put oil in the car in between oil changes. The dealership said they would send the information to Hyundai and call me with their response but they never called me. On April 14, 2023 I took the car back to dealership after it started rattling, the engine light came on and the car went into limp mode. I left it at the dealership for 2 days for service. I was told to drive it for 1,000 miles and return for oil check But I had to bring it back to dealership before 1,000 miles because it was burning oil again. I left it at the dealership for 1 day for service I was told to drive it for 1,000 miles and bring it back for oil check. On June13, 2023 I brought the car back to the dealership and after waiting for an hour the tech told me he performed the last step in the oil consumption test and that my car was fine. But the car continues to burn oil and rattles. This is a car that I take to the dealership for routine oil changes since I purchased it in 2016. The engine is under warranty and every time I go to the dealership for this issue I get a different response because they know that Hyundai is aware of this issue with this make and model and it seems like nothing is going to be done about it. I continue calling the dealership for an update from Hyundai but they tell me they haven’t gotten a response. It’s obvious nothing is going to be done about this. In the meantime I’m afraid to drive to far, I’m continuously putting oil in the car and my warranty is not being honored. This is so frustrating!

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
The Hyundai Tucson 2017 we own experienced excessive oil burning, due to what appears to be a known Hyundai Engine failure which can cause the bearings to fail. My Hyundai Tucson appears to need new bearings which requires a full engine replacement based on how this car is made. This particular model does not have a recall on it however several other Hyundai models do for the very same known issue. This engine could have seized while driving at higher speeds on the freeway making this a serious safety matter. There does not appear to be a clear indicator of this excessive oil burning. The car was not leaking oil, was not smoking, but for some reason it was burning all oil between oil changes ( 3,000 miles). This 2017 engine should be able to go 5k miles between oil changes, however that was not the case. From reading various posts from other Hyundai Tucson owners, this issue is impacting more drivers than might be realized. The safety concern this kind of failure poses needs to be reviewed and someone needs to have Hyundai do the right thing and issue the recall for repair this known engine failure. People shouldn't have to lose their lives to get the right safety attention on this issue.

Potential Consequences:
There are no warning lights. My car stalls when I go to take off from a stop. It stalled on an interstate. It acts like there is no power if you put your foot on the gas all the way down It will take off eventually or if you put it in park turn it off and back on it will go without histation. This has happened at stop lights as well. I am scared that I will get hit.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
The vehicle was serviced not long after I got it as a certified pre-owned vehicle for reprogramming of the transmission, which I told it was a just a reprogramming to make it more reactive. The vehicle would fail to accelerate, or have delayed acceleration. I was not aware at the time that these vehicles were known to have faulty transmissions and if I known this at purchase I would have spent my money on a more reliable vehicle. The vehicles transmission is having issues again, not reversing, not accelerating, etc. The Hyundai dealership I got it from told me that they won't even get me into the dealership for a diagnostic until January 6th,,, which is a huge safety issue. Furthermore, apparently Hyundai is well away of the fact that they have allowed Hyundai owners to drive vehicles with faulty transmission and will not help with extended the warranty on their vehicles. I am 477 miles over 100,00. It seems as though they do not even want to help with repairs, even if they are out of pocket.
