Defect Description:
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Potential Consequences:
While driving home from a trip , the car suddenly lost power . and engine light came on an then transmission light overheating light came on . I was near a town pulled over and had car towed to nearest Hyundai dealer. after waiting a week they finally looked at the vehicle, and said that mice had eaten the transmission electrical harness. Days later they repaired the damage, their was only 6000 miles on the car, but it was not covered under the warranty because mice had eaten the wirers. After I researched , the vehicle ,I found out the the wiring they used was made with a soy based coating plant based.THis apparently is not the first time this has been reported to the manufacture. To add to my problems they replaced the same wiring harness back into the car. On the bill I received they charged me 398.20 dollars. Also on the bill it states, that any warranties are only guarantied by manf, and hyundai disclaims any responsibility. Hyundai placed these same wring harness back in the vehicle knowing this is a real problem and danger to drivers. They basically are putting an all you can eat buffet for all rodents. This is a dangerous condition where the vehicle could shut down at any time.

Potential Consequences:
I was going to work, dropping my one year old off at his grandparents on the way. My purse (with my spare key) along with the rest of my belongings were dumped into the front passenger seat after I unlocked my car. Unfortunately, I also placed my main set in the seat in order to buckle up the kiddo. I was wearing a dress with no pockets. I shut my front passenger door, opened the rear passenger door and finished up the car seat wrangle. I then shut his door, and every door on the vehicle clicked shut in the auto locking mechanism. My adrenaline and panic were instantaneous. I work in health care and I know how quickly closed cars become death traps for babies. The car was not on, and my intention was to be in the driver seat 5 seconds later with the AC blasting. I live in the country, my closest neighbors were gone, all of my means of outside communication were in the car, my husband was at work and within two minutes my baby started crying. I immediately grabbed a rock from my garden and broke the driver side rear vent window. No harm was done to my baby, he ate a snack and took a nap afterwards. I got the smallest cut ever on my hand, none of it hit him during the smash. Window repair is 475 through safelight, insurance wanted a 1k deductible so I skipped out on a claim. I spoke to Hyundai Cares and after I explained the situation I was asked why I was upset that I had locked my own baby in the car. The problem is that I didn't lock him in the car - the car locked him in the car. My vehicle has seat sensors and reminds me to grab my passenger from the back seat when I park. I get seat belt reminders due to weight sensors in the front passenger seat when I travel with my dog. In my eyes, the car was fully aware the front was empty, two fobs were in the car, and the back was occupied.

Defect Description:
STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Upon driving the Hyundai Venue the lane assistance feature would repeatedly sound an alert that the car was drifting out of the lane and proceed to yank the wheel in order to keep the car inside the lane. When driving the vehicle on the highway this alarm and wheel pulling was constant, especially in any form of crosswinds, it made the car feel almost impossible to control and terrified my child that was in the car with me. After shutting the lane assistance feature off the course correction that lane assistance was trying to achieve transferred to myself as the driver to manually course correct the car. In order to keep the car inside a lane on the highway I must stay around 50-55mph with a tight grip on the wheel making constant corrections and even then it still feels unsafe as it tries to pull. I contacted two different Hyundai dealerships that said to me it is a design issue as well as them stating the lane assistance feature was a common complaint due to the yanking of the wheel and they advised me to shut it off. My husband brought it to a dealership for a test drive when he demonstrated the car pulling inches out of the lane and his struggle to control it, however since there was not a physical defect the dealership could not help us. I contacted Hyundai corporate and spoke with three different people who said to follow the advice about the lane assistance but since there is not physical defect that nothing can be done. My family and I are left with a car we feel unsafe in and I fear an accident is just a matter of time.
