UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

I just got my car yesterday. I was leaving work and my car had no power. I couldn't get up to speed for a very long time, it was as if it was in limp mode. I got home and scanned it and got a P2615 code. upon doing research I have found several others having this problem. It is very scary and dangerous to drive this way. Also, cleared the code and it runs fine until the next time. This problem needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt or worse.

Defect Description:

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

This Versa was purchased brand new with 6 miles on it, delivered 8/16/2024. Strong odor of fuel inside cabin after city driving about 90 minutes in 100+ degree heat with a/c (on either recirculating or fresh air) in [XXX] . So overwhelming, causing burning eyes, throat, and nose forcing me to shut off engine. Predictably occurs when outside heat is over 100 deg F. This occurred within only 30 days of purchase at about 1300 miles, and so far occurred 4 times thus far total since purchase date to present. It took me a few weeks to fully understand the root cause until inspection under hood revealed fuel leakage around fuel injectors where inserted in intake manifold, and possibly fuel rail. Brought car in to Nissan dealer that sold me it and they said they smelled no odor (most likely because engine was cold and they only test drove briefly) and found no leaks. No due diligence or urgency on their part, and it was after their dismissive response that I encouraged sent the service advisor photos of the leaky fuel taken from days prior, in order to be taken seriously and have it fixed with some urgency under warranty, as this leaky fuel on hot manifold can combust or leak into cylinders. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Defect Description:

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Brand new Versa delivered 8/16/2024. Started to hear chirping, whirring noise from clutch pedal when halfway depressed (right before bite) and also when releasing pedal, halfway up, when engine is warm. First started at 1200 miles and continues presently. Taken to Nissan dealership on 10/8/2024 and was told their mechanics don’t have the time to drive around and make engine warm to reproduce clutch symptoms. Major concern as this is brand new from the Nissan factory already exhibiting major clutch symptoms indicative of faulty release bearing/release fork, causing potentially catastrophic transmission damage a few hundred or thousand miles from now, when it could have otherwise been prevented promptly, under factory warranty. Vehicle is available for inspection by NHTSA. No one injured.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle loses power, ability to accelerate and is unable reach a speed above 35-40 mph regardless of gear (manual transmission) or downshifting, requiring you to pull off road; has occurred four times now. After turning vehicle off and restarting, operation is normal. Nissan dealer checked and pulled up a code regarding coded keys and reprogrammed keys; could not replicate the power/acceleration issue. Problem still re-occurred. There are no warnings, warning lights or symptoms until you accelerate.

Potential Consequences:

I just purchased my 2024 Nissan VERSA two weeks ago August 24, 2024. Since I have had it my car doesn’t seem to want to shift speed like it should. My transmission seems to be stalling to change out. My car also constantly makes a growling noise when left I’m on my brakes sitting. I took my car back to the dealerships and they tried tell me that it was the compressor which is false my AC nor my defrost is on. I really need this problem resolved. The noise it’s making is unbelievable coming from a brand new car.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

After four months of driving without incident, all of a sudden, the car repeatedly stalled. When I restarted the car, no matter how much I pushed on the gas pedal, it wouldn't accelerate. At one point, I had the gas pedal to the floor, but the rpm indicator stayed very low and the car was only able to go around 30 mph. It was clear the car couldn't be driven safely, so we had it towed to the dealer, and the dealer said he couldn't replicate the problem, but the dealer has recently had a lot of problems, so I wouldn't take them at their word.

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle would not accelerate past 55 MPH after stalling. No warning. Got on the highway and the car was extremely lagging and the accelerator produced no response. Floored the vehicle and still nothing. Had to pull over and cycle the key 5x to fix the issue. I have stalled a few times, and this was the first time to “limp mode” occurred. The vehicle can be inspected at request of NHTSA. I believe it’s a common issue with these Nissans based on what I’ve read from forums.

The vehicle can be inspected at request of NHTSA. I believe it’s a common issue with these Nissans based on what I’ve read from forums.

Additional Notes:

Vehicle would not accelerate past 55 MPH after stalling. No warning. Got on the highway and the car was extremely lagging and the accelerator produced no response. Floored the vehicle and still nothing. Had to pull over and cycle the key 5x to fix the issue. I have stalled a few times, and this was the first time to “limp mode” occurred. Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I recently purchased a new 2024 Nissan Versa S with the manual transmission. I am an experienced manual transmission driver; however, I have stalled it 3 times in the last 5400 miles. The following issue appears after stalling and restarting the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, everything seems normal. There are no warning lights on the dash to show otherwise, however when you begin to accelerate, the vehicle seems to be in some kind of “limp mode”. The vehicle is extremely sluggish and will barely accelerate. The first time this happened I stalled the vehicle in traffic. After restarting the car, I slowly pulled up to the stop bar as I continued to complete a U-turn at a green stop light with oncoming traffic heading my way. I had no knowledge that the vehicle would be in this “limp mode”. This almost caused an accident because the vehicle had very little acceleration and I could not accelerate fast enough to get to the speed limit as oncoming cars quickly approached behind me. I continued to have acceleration problems in multiple gears, so I pulled over, parked the vehicle and shut off the ignition. Upon restarting the vehicle a few minutes later, the slow acceleration issued seemed to go away. This “limp mode” has happened to me 3 times in about 5400 miles. I have been driving manual transmission cars for over 25 years and have never had a vehicle go into “limp mode” simply because I let the clutch out to fast/slow and stalled the vehicle. Stalling out a vehicle with a manual transmission occasionally is normal. Going into limp mode afterwards is not normal and is indicative of a serious safety deficiency within the vehicle. Upon reading the other reports of similar circumstances regarding 2022-2024 Versa’s with manual transmissions, it seems there may a larger safety problem with these vehicles.
