Recall Date: Feb 8, 2018
Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, all equipped with a column shifter. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I just purchased my truck in November 2022 and noticed an audible ticking noise coming from the engine immediately after start-up. After having the vehicle inspected by an ASE mechanic, it was discovered that the manifold bolts had broken on each warped manifold which was likely causing the ticking sound. Because of the defective manifold bolts, this exhaust leak created a dangerous situation while the Hemi engine was running and possibly resulted in a failed emissions test required to obtain a license plate in metro Atlanta, GA.

Potential Consequences:

While parking my truck, it had an unintended acceleration and my foot was not on the gas peddle. I was going about 1-2mph and the truck picked up speed unexpectedly and collided with my garage wall. I am unsure what component malfunctioned and it has not yet been inspected. Myself and my baby were in the car and luckily I was able to stop by hitting the brakes and putting the car in park. It continued to pull forward even with my foot on the brake. There was no warning or codes prior to or after the incident.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

Air suspension fails repeatedly in cold weather. Vehicle has been repaired twice under manufacturer warranty and extended warranty. I am concerned that if this fails while the vehicle in motion an accident may result. There are many documented cases of this issue and, as I read online, a pending class action lawsuit in Canada as a result.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The 8.4" infotainment screen freezes up at random times. This is an ongoing recurring issue. This is not only a comfort/convenience/entertainment annoyance. This also disables safety equipment, for example the back-up camera and the windshield defrosting via the climate control system. While I have reached out to the manufacturer for guidance, I have not taken it in for service. There are no warning lamps or indicators of malfunction. This has not resulted in any accidents yet, although I can plainly see the potential.
