These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

WE WERE AT A STOP LIGHT AND JUST STARTED TO COMPLETE A LEFT HAND TURN ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE OTHER DRIVER RAN A RED LIGHT, HE WAS ISSUED A CITATION FOR RUNNING A RED LIGHT, AND WAS "PROBABLY" SPEEDING. WE WERE IN A 35MPH ZONE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THIS IS PART OF THEIR CONCLUSION. TRAVELING AROUND 35-40 MPH I WAS APPROACHING A STOPPED LIGHT. I EASED OFF THE GAS AND WHEN THE GAS PEDAL NO LONGER "ENGAGED" THE TRANSMISSION THE COMPUTER/SOFTWARE DISENGAGED THE TRANSMISSION WITHOUT MY DOING.
