Safety Issue:

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

Potential Risk:
An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
FREE Recall Solution:
Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Toyota 4Runner vehicles equipped with an accessory Billet Grille Overlay installed by SET or provided by SET and installed by SET dealers. The U-nut that secures the overlay grille may fracture, allowing the Billet Grille Overlay to detach from the vehicle.

Potential Risk:
If the Billet Grille Overlay detaches while driving, it can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
SET will notify owners, and dealers will replace the securing U-nuts with upgraded hardware, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 26, 2018. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. SET's number for this recall is SET17C.

Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner vehicles equipped with accessory hood scoops installed by SET or SET dealers. The adhesive attaching the hood scoop may weaken, allowing the hood scoop to detach from the vehicle.

Potential Risk:
If the hood scoop detaches, it may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Potential Risk:
If the roof rack fasteners loosen, the roof rack may detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Safety Issue:

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling one 2016 Toyota 4Runner vehicle manufactured November 1, 2016 and one 2017 Lexus GX460 vehicle manufactured November 16, 2016. The affected vehicles are equipped with Takata PSPI-LD front passenger air bag inflators that may have been manufactured without ignition booster tablets. As a result, in the event of a crash, the air bag may not fully inflate during deployment of the primary stage. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Potential Risk:
The improper inflation of the passenger air bag may increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Toyota dealers have replaced the passenger side air bag modules, free of charge. Toyota notified the affected dealers on December 15, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is G06, GLR.

The Load Carrying Capacity Modification Label may not reflect the correct added weight of the installed accessories. Potential Consequences:

THE VEHICLE HAS HAD A MULTITUDE OF ISSUES. I AM ON MY 3RD DIFFERENT SET OF TIRES THIS YEAR (INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL TIRES). NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES THE TIRES ARE BALANCED, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES RATHER VIOLENTLY AT CERTAIN SPEEDS. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN BALANCED AND RE-BALANCED (INCLUDING ROAD-FORCE BALANCED, ETC.). ON-LINE FORUMS INDICATE THAT MANY OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. ALSO THIS WEEK I HAVE LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE (THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING AND BINDING UP). APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AGO THE RIGHT FRONT CALIPER FROZE UP AND THE VEHICLE NEARLY WENT OFF THE ROAD. ALSO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS NOISY FROM THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. TOYOTA EVENTUALLY REPLACED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL (I BELIEVE A BAD PINION GEAR). THE DEALER THEN MADE REPAIRS BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST ONCE OR TWICE SINCE THEN AND THE DEALER HAS REPAIRED IT EACH TIME. ALSO IN THE LAST YEAR THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4-LANE ROAD. I EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MOVE BUT THEN IT STARTED TO GO IN AND OUT OF 4-WHEEL DRIVE ON IT'S OWN AGAIN WITH WARNINGS AND CHIMES GOING OFF. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE STARTS TO GO IN AND OUT OF 4-WHEEL DRIVE ON ITS OWN THE SHIFTER LEVER USUALLY STARTS TO FREEZE UP AS WELL (AND YOU MAY NEED TO USE BOTH HANDS TO FORCE THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR). ALSO IN THE LAST YEAR THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4-LANE ROAD. THE VEHICLE DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR STRIKE ANYTHING AND TRACTION WAS ABRUPTLY REGAINED (W/O WARNING) BEFORE HITTING THE GUARD RAIL ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO REGAIN CONTROL. THE VEHICLE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM FAILED TO ACTIVATE WHEN NEEDED DESPITE ALMOST GOING SIDEWAYS INTO THE GUARD RAIL. THE VEHICLE TIRES FAILED TO OPERATE IN MANNER CONSISTENT FOR AN ALL-TERRAIN TIRE. THE TIRES EXCEED 75% TREAD LIFE WITH NO IMPERFECTIONS FOUND. UPON INSPECTION AFTER THE INCIDENT AND TESTING ON A DIFFERENT ROAD, 30-40% OF THE TREAD WILL REMAIN SNOW PACKED EVEN ON CLEAR ROADS DUE TO DRIVING ON SNOW PACKED ROADS PRIOR. THIS PARTICLE TREAD PATTERN DESIGN FAILS TO HAVE ENOUGH SPACE BETWEEN THE TREAD GROVES TO ALLOW SNOW TO CLEAR. THIS TIRE SHOULD NOT ALLOWED TO BE SOLD AS AN ALL-TERRAIN TIRE AND HAS A DESIGN FLAW MAKING IT CLEARLY UNSAFE TO USE IN SNOW. DURING ROUTINE DRIVING, THE TIRES CONSTANTLY FAIL TO PROPERLY PROVIDE TRACTION TO THE POINT WHERE LOW SPEED TURNING INTO PARKING LOTS BECOMES A CHALLENGE FOR SAFE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE'S TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM CLEARLY HAS A DESIGN FLAW PREVENTING ACTIVATION DURING A SCENARIO IN WHICH IT IS REQUIRED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE HAS (4) TOYO OPEN COUNTRY A/T II TIRES SIZE P265/70R17, (10 32NDS TREAD REMAINING). OUTSIDE CONDITIONS AS FOLLOWS: TEMP, 1 DEGREE F, ROAD CONDITIONS, CLEAR, FLAT AND NO ICE OR SNOW ACCUMULATION, WIND SPEED, 5-10 MPH N TO S AND WAS HITTING VEHICLE PARALLEL TO ITS TRAVELING DIRECTION, LOCATION, NORTH DAKOTA.
