SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I drive under the ACC system, the front traffic slows down on highway, but ACC system do not automatically slows down. So I push the brakes, but the car didn't slow down either. The car crash directly into the front car. Currently the car is under insurance inspectation. after the crush happened, the car start automatically moving without engine on, when it's in the parking mode. An police officer stop the car from moving by manually push the car backwards.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

When traveling via highway at approximately 60 MPH, the right front tire struck a small pothole. The vehicle continued driving normally until stopping at a light. Thereafter, the front right wheel started making rhythmic vibration noises while vibrating extensively, transferring to the steering wheel. Upon visual inspection, nothing appeared wrong. After driving several miles, the vibration died down to a small trickle and now remains along with humming at faster highway speeds. This imitates a broken wheel bearing that occurred on the left front tire, but the Toyota dealer has refused to acknowledge any issue let alone inspect it. This sudden - yet entirely associated with driving - impact clearly caused damage to the wheel bearing and will accelerate its failure. If this occurs at such a rate the bearing fails upon contact with such driving conditions, drivers may lose ability to control their car altogether. A similar issue occurred and was remedied by the dealer for the left wheel. This could be a design flaw resulting from placing too large of tires and too stiff suspension for the Corolla, resulting in mechanical damage whilst driving in normal conditions, which could lead to the failure of steering related mechanical components. The end result of which could be death. Such theories have not been investigated. No warning lamps displayed at any time.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, though the steering itself did not move, the vehicle began to jerk and sway left to right, causing the contact to spin out and veer into the next lane. As a result, the vehicle collided with a semi-truck on the passenger side of the vehicle. The collision with the semi-truck sent the vehicle careening, clipping another passenger vehicle before coming to a complete stop on the shoulder of the roadway. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. An occupant of the other passenger vehicle bumped her head in an undisclosed location, and the contact was unaware if medical treatment was sought. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard pending review by the contact's insurance provider. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My daughter was driving yesterday when the steering wheel locked suddenly. She was sideswiped by another vehicle that hit the wheel well and forced the steering to work again. The occupants of the other vehicle did not pull over so she drove on to my work where she broke down crying and explained what happened. I took the car in yesterday to diagnose any issues with the car and was told that this is a feature that Toyota has when the car hits something like a pothole at faster speeds. My daughter could not have been going terribly fast considering it was 5:00 p.m. in Los Angeles on Olympic Blvd. during the height of rush hour; however, most concerning is I was told that according to diagnostics this is the third time the car had done this due to "aggressive acceleration". They told me that the jolt from the other car hitting the wheel well must have reset the sensor so the steering wheel could start working again. They said this is a normal safety feature on all Toyota hybrids. I asked for more clarification on what exactly we should do to prevent this happening in the future and they said to accelerate slowly so the sensor has time to keep up. This seems like an incredibly unsafe feature. I emailed Toyota's corporate office for clarification but received nothing to date. I am extremely nervous to drive my car and especially to have my 16 year old daughter drive it! I do have the diagnostic printout the Toyota Service Department gave me yesterday and am happy to share if you would find it useful.

Defect Description:

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The moonroof exploded while driving alone on a 4 lane highway. No other vehicles were near me and I saw no evidence of being struck by a foreign body. If I had the interior cover open I could have been cut by the broken glass and the possibility of glass flying from my car could have endangered other vehicles or pedestrians. I did not have the interior cover open so was not injured and no other vehicles or pedestrians were effected, thank God! The dealer set me up an appointment 4 days from now but I am going to contact the service manager first thing tomorrow morning. There was no warning either electronically or physically. I consider the vehicle unsafe to drive.
