ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

New 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid, 2000 miles, experienced a total system failure while driving, engine, Hybrid system, brake, parking brake etc. all systems failure causing a serious safety issue. Dealership called Toyota as diagnostics instructed them to. They want to replace computer but frankly they have no idea and are guessing making this vehicle completely unsafe as it can never be driven on a highway where another failure would likely cause injury or death. Dealers position is it's not their problem, it's Toyotas!!!

At a stop while the vehicle is running and in drive, there is a delay of a second or two once the throttle is pushed to accelerate. This causes me to push the accelerator more thinking I’m not pressing hard enough, resulting in the truck accelerating faster than I’d like. When pulling out into traffic, the hesitation of the vehicle causes me to not merge at the moment I attempt to.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

The brakes failed while traveling 72 miles per hour on cruise control, and controlled distance. I was traveling behind a semi truck in the third lane from the right on Interstate 5 near Stockton, calif. coming upon the truck the Tundra started to accelerate, I hit the brakes numerous times yet tundra continued to accelerate, so i hit cancel on speed control, thru into park, and navigated three lanes left in heavy traffic into the median, still hitting my breaks, Finally stopped the Tundra with emergency break, but took the right rear tire off the rim in my violent exit to the median, Inspection has been complete from Toyota mfg. saying i have a normal truck, Dealer can not confirm problem, there were no warning signs. I am a very experience large animal veterinarian driving over 3 million miles in my career with no accidents, or moving violations. I own a 2007 Tundra with 200,000 miles, no incidents, I know where the brakes are on a tundra.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Same as recent other reports. Throttle lag of 2-4 seconds when pulling out into traffic or crossing an intersection. Happens intermittently on a daily basis. Seems to happen more when engine is warm but not at full operating temperature. Definitely not normal and potentially dangerous. Mentioned to dealer. They were unable to see, but said it was probably normal.

Potential Consequences:

From a dead stop, pressing the gas pedal nothing happens for 3-4 seconds and then the engine surges. Very stressful pulling out into traffic. I’ve reported it to the dealer service dept and they tell me it’s normal. This condition is not normal. It happens every day.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Randomly when trying to accelerate from a stop or a slow roll (less than 5 MPH) the throttle doesn't respond for 2-3 seconds then the truck will surge. When I say it doesn't respond I mean nothing happens no RPM increase or anything. The dealership wants me to believe that it is turbo lag, but that is just a decrease in power, not total loss of acceleration. This has been an issue since delivery.
