FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

The issues all relate to Audi's "Pre-Sense" system. On several occasions the car has either pulled hard and caused me to swerve - apparently incorrectly sensing that I am veering out of my lane - or has stopped suddenly - apparently incorrectly sensing that I was about to hit (or be hit by) something. These incidents have happened on the freeway, narrow mountain roads and side streets. All of these incidents could have caused serious serious bodily injury or death to persons and/or damage to property. I have been in touch with Audi numerous times and they have been unable to correct the issue.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

There is an open recall (action number 13i5) for this vehicle, and I've scheduled the appointment with the dealership in Morton Grove, Chicago. But they said they don't how much time they can fix the issue, maybe a month or longer if the engine needs to be replaced. And they can't not provide me with a loaner because there is no one available. I contacted the Audi, and they also said they don't know how long will it take to fix the vehicle, which is ridiculous as no ones knows how long will it take to fix the issue.

Potential Consequences:

The horn does not honk unless the engine is running. On the FIRST day I drove my new car, I was waiting in my car for my husband. I was parked. A truck behind me backed up, almost hitting my car. I tried to honk, no horn! I jumped out of my car and screamed. At the same time another man told him to stop. Today woman keep their keys IN THEIR purse to access their cars. If they are in danger, prior to starting their car, an AUDI IS NOT THE CAR TO BE IN. This is dangerous. I have to leave my radio on, or the screen will not work. The decisions on this car need to be addressed.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

With just 800 miles on the vehicle after only having had it for 3 weeks after purchase, we were on the highway at 11pm at night and the engine started violently shaking to the point that the vehicle was undriveable; the emergency warnings on the dashboard came on, and the more we accelerated the more the vehicle shook. The longer we drove it to get to an emergency exit, the more it started shaking. Within about 30-60 seconds the car became completely undriveable. We were told conflicting things from the Audi service center and their technicians. We were first told that this was a complete engine failure that would need a new engine. We were told cylinder 3 lost pressure and was unresponsive. Then we were told it was just one faulty spring that needed to be replaced, and the vehicle was supposedly fine to run. Simultaneously, and in one-on-one conversations, we were privately told by our Service Adviser Flor Fuentes that she had no confidence that the underlying engine issue was actually fixed, and that she felt the service center got lucky in identifying one temporary patch to the problem that got the engine running again, and that she herself would not feel comfortable getting in this car pregnant or putting a newborn child into this car. We then retained a senior independent Audi service technician to make an assessment of Audi’s repair work, and they found several corners were cut in the process of allegedly fixing the vehicle, not least that Audi did not follow its own test driving protocols before trying to hand it back to us. The independent technician also advised that he could not assure our safety based on the path the dealership took in the alleged repair and the corners cut. We also have a recorded conversation with the head of Audi Service at Audi Central Houston where he acknowledges they didn't follow their own safety checks and standards in the process. I have service center repair records and correspondence but your upload portal is not working

TRAILER HITCHES

Potential Consequences:

Factory installed hitch receiver became very loose after only one use. A trailer weighing less than 3500 pounds was towed less than 200 miles. When I removed the hitch from the receiver, I notice the receiver was very loose. I could move it very easily with one hand. This seems to me to be a very serious safety issue. On a longer trip the receiver could have completely detached from the vehicle causing a serious accident. The vehicle is only about three months old and has been used to tow only once.

Potential Consequences:

1. When parked on a slight incline, vehicle rolls forward (downhill) AFTER shifting from Park to Reverse. Dealership says this is normal, says car will roll forward up to 10 feel even when transmission is in reverse. Appears to be due to a design defect in the electronic transmission. 2. Windows will not open when outside temps are below 20 degrees. Dealership says they have no solution. This car has a bunch of other problems that Audi won’t address, but the above are clear safety issues. Thank you.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

On June 1 2022, Driving at a speed of approx 20 MPH, the car brakes came on suddenly, 4 windows came down and the vehicle came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the road. A message came on to the effect that the electric system had failed. The vehicle was not driveable and was towed to the Audi Dealership (South Coast Audi, Santa Ana, CA) the same day. I was very concerned about this issue and so contacted both the dealership and Audi USA to request that it be investigated without delay given this issue could endanger lives or cause serious injury. Despite calling the dealership and Audi USA, the vehicle has not yet to my knowledge even been inspected. The dealer advised me that because they are so busy they may not even look at it until June 20 (20 days after the incident. I called Audi USA and advise them that this is a safety concern that they must investigate. Audi USA contacted the dealer but simply advised me that they had made a request to the dealer to keep me updated. Audi has otherwise failed to take any action to investigate the cause of this.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

We were driving home on the interstate when suddenly we got an “Electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” notification. We pulled over to the shoulder and were able to restart the vehicle but the check engine light was on. We were able to get to the nearest exit when the error appeared again. This time as I was pulling over, the screen went blank and I completely lost power to the vehicle. Thankfully this occurred in a very remote area and there were not a lot of cars around. If this had happened at a place without a shoulder (ex a construction zone, or a narrow winding mountain road) we would have had no place to pull over given the time between when we saw the error and when we lost power to the vehicle was only about ten seconds. At best we become a traffic obstruction. At worst if this occurred in a location with poor visibility we would be rear ended at extremely high velocity. Dealer diagnosed the issue and stated there is a tsb from audi. The fix, however, is only coming end of q3 2022. We are supposed to drive a car that could shut down at any moment in the meantime and just hope it doesn’t happen again, the dealer could not provide a fix they simply cleared the error codes. Dealer said they have had 3 other 2022 q5e come in with the same issue. The only indication of the failure came with the “Electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” error message. It appeared suddenly and we had no prior indication from the vehicle that something was wrong. We did have a check engine light after the error appeared the first time.
