Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.

The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My truck recently started to leak oil onto my driveway so I took it to a local dealership to get it looked at. The service engineers diagnosed the problem as the Engine Oil Cooler line is detaching from the crimp causing oil to leak out. They also told me that there was a recall, see PDF attached, (#N212329640-01) that is associated with this problem. However, it only applies to my vehicle if it was manufactured in Canada and Alaska. My vehicle, I was told, was manufactured in Mexico. I brought it to the dealership and they told me this doesn't apply to my vehicles simply because of where my vehicle was manufactured. This is troubling information as the SAME issue that was part of a national recall is the SAME problem that is happening with my truck and could cause a major safety risk while driving, yet it is not part of the recall based off where it was manufactured. Specifically, the vehicle could be involved with "loss of propulsion" as stated in the original recall. This is too coincidental of an occurrence to simply ignore it which is why I wanted to file a complaint.

Potential Consequences:

When I shift the vehicle to “Park” and shut off the engine, a “Shift to Park” message comes on the dash and the electric components won’t turn off and the vehicle chimes until it will randomly stop. Sometimes it does not stop and will drain the battery completely. This happened once at a wedding venue in the middle of nowhere and I was left stranded. No matter how many times I restart the vehicle and shift to different gears, the message continuously comes up and only way to avoid battery draining is to disconnect it, which is a major inconvenience.

The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer however, the cause for the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Additional Notes:

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 15 MPH and accelerating, the vehicle independently came to a stop. The vehicle was still running however, the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Since approximately 30,000 miles I have been having issues with the transmission. I have taken my truck to x3 different dealerships. Tom Bell in Redlands, CA and Mark Christopher in Ontario, CA are the first two. Both of them have told me there wasn't a problem and reprommgrammed the computer for the trans. I tried working with the chevy advocate and they did nothing but give me the run around until my chevy warranty ran our at 60,000 miles. Now I am once again attempting to get the truck looked at by a chevy dealer and I have taken it today to Diamond Hills in Banning, CA. My extended warranty runs out in 3000 miles and they had me come in to have it evaluated and they said they wanted to service the transmission. So we will see what happens. I regularly take my truck to be serviced at firestone and my firestone rep has warned me my transmission is definitely going OUT! It is unfair how the everyday person if forced to eat the cost while chevy keeps making money and dodging their intentionally distributed problem trucks. Please advise on how to hold them accountable for their intentional malpractice. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle steering became intermittently jerky while turning in reverse out of driveway and back up camera guide disappeared. This happenend suddenly every time backing out of driveway for about 4 days. The second episode was while attempting to do a K turn. Steering was lost, could not complete the turn almost putting the vehicle into a large ditch. I was able to complete the turn and vehicle opperated seemingly "normal". Concerned, I drove dorectly home, the same happened while turning another corner almost into a ditch.....had to stop short of the turn and muscle the steering wheel to safely get through the corner. The dash communication system showed "service power steering no assist soon" while the incidents happened. After parking vehicle at home the alert would not go away and unable to turn steering wheel. This steering issue seemed to happen at a reduced speed while turning. Very dangerous situation !! I will need to have the truck towed to shop for review and contact dealer for any currnt recalls. I know GM trucks have been recaled for this issue on past models. I have read a bad ground on the passenger side chassis behind front tire may be the culprit as well.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

CEL for emissions evap circuit. Problem part is fuel pump control module. GM has recalled other vehicles over this part and has suggested its failed operation may cause the engine to stall due to the fuel pump shutting off. Currently my vehicles evap system is unable to vent fuel vapors to the engine which poses a safety risk if the pressure accumulates in the tank. I believe GM wasn’t thorough in the recall and only recalled what was absolutely necessary. The part is on back order which points to how common this item fails.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Power steering failure while the vehicle is in motion. Power assist goes off and on intermittently, without warning. This causes a very unsafe condition, particularly if you are in a curve or turn. There have been other reported failures on this model truck. I have taken the vehicle to an authorized Chevrolet dealer who stated there is no recall on the vehicle for this problem, but also stated Chevrolet is aware of the problem and has had a recall in the past for the electronic steering doing the same thing. The dealer stated they could not replicate the problem and charged me 147.00 for diagnostic, which showed nothing. This was done, although the truck was sold as a certified pre owned vehicle with warranty.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

At a major intersection of several lanes north/south & east/west silverado stalled while waiting for the red light to change. Engine cutoff, would not restart, and situation was high traffic time at a high traffic intersection. Car was towed, problem diagnosed as the electronic sensor would not allow electricty to the starter motor. required part is not available, it turns out that this is reportedly a common problem. The truck is a Silverado 2019 with 36,811 miles. Reportedly out of warranty but this appears to be a common problem and certainly is the kind of problem that would be many years down the road

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

I've had continued issues with components that are electrical . The interior electrical items go wonky, radio touch screen will blink back and forth between two screens for several minutes. Sometimes the sir and radio will just turn on with no key, this is random. It will also turn on off then on again after removing key. The ac has begun to randomly stop working(, blowing cold or at sufficient correct speed) all these occurrences are random, have been checked, unable to duplicate or correct. Bigger more serious issues . The steering and loss of power and hesitation in transmission. My steering went horribly bad. It was replaced and it's still bad and the power module in new unit is bad.. again waiting for s new tech and pinion. (It's been ridiculous with the strike) the steering for several months has been extremely sloppy causing the truck to wander and it's very unsafe. Over the last couple months there's a hesitation when stepping on the gas. As well as a loss in power while driving and far too much gas is required to get it going. The truck purrs when idling but it's losing power. I've stayed on top of the maintenance.. I've had everything checked. These electrical issues have become more than annoying. They are now unsafe, becoming very expensive and have resulted in my having to rent a vehicle. I see there have been many complaints over steering, transmission and electrical. It's time to do something about these unsafe issues
