SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
When towing my travel trailer with the 2500HD, the electronic trailer brake randomly connects and disconnects while driving. This results in the unsafe operation of the trailer because the brakes aren't functional and puts others at risk if stopping was required during the outage. GM/Chevy has created Document #6379278 which admits that this is their issue but they don't seem to be providing a fix.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Brand new truck, 1st time towing through mountains of Kentucky, we kept getting "check trailer wiring", "trailer brakes disconnected" "service trailer brakes" I did research and took the truck in for service. They found nothing wrong, but said we should get an adapter and gave me the name of two. We had the camper checked as well, no issues. Many complaining on blogs about this issue and many have also been told to get an adapter. Really? why would I need a $200 adapter and the fact they already knew which two I should buy, tells me, they know its an issue with the vehicle. Pretty scary when we had to come to a stop on the freeway and we didn't have trailer brakes. Never had any issues pulling it with our 2021 silverado 1500. This is really dangerous

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
When truck is connected to a trailer with electric brakes, intermittently a check trailer wiring warning flashes on the dashboard screen. When this happens you do not have trailer brakes. It has happened on multiple trailers with 7 pin connections. I have taken it to the dealer twice with no fix other than GM recommending a non GM trailer receptacle. I have taken my trailer to the dealer and they could find no problems. Basically the 2024 Silverado 2500 HD when hooked to trailers with industry standard 7 pin 12 volt receptacle loses trailer brakes. This condition potentially is fatal and a definite hazard to public safety on roads. problem was reproduced at the Chevy dealership in Pensacola Fl. The problem was reproduced on multiple trailers at Great American RV in DeFuniak Springs Fl.

We have a 2022 Grand Design Imagine 2800BH for two years and towed it with a 2018 RAM 2500. Just recently purchased the 2024 Silverado 2500HD and our first tow the new truck kept disconnecting the trailer brakes then reconnecting. SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
While towing my fifth wheel trailer, the electric trailer brakes module shuts off with a message "check trailer wiring". When the module shuts off, the trailer brakes do not actuate relying fully on the truck to stop as the trailer brakes will not work. The plug was firmly seated and it caused issues whether using the in bed plug or the bumper plug. After some time, the message would go away and the system would display the message "trailer connected" and the trailer brakes would work again. After some time, the process would repeat several times (30-40 times) primarily from mid morning to evening. I verified plug tightness and applied dielectric grease to ensure a good connection and that did not improve the issue. The trailer is 1 year old and was pulled with 3 other trucks (2 dodge and another Chevy) with no issues at all. I was able to locate a GM bulletin numbered "document id: 6379278" that references this problem and states to disconnect the trailer solar panels while a fix is developed. This was only found on an RV owners forum. I was able to disconnect my solar panels on my trailer and the issue was no longer present with my brakes working properly and no error messages for 10 hours of driving. This is a significant safety issue and needs to be made abundantly clear to drivers who haul trailers. Not all solar panels are easily disconnected and should be done by a qualified electrician due to the potential hazards of their voltage. Additionally, not having trailer brakes while driving on the interstate is a significant safety hazard that greatly increases the chances of an accident as the brakes would stop working without warning including while in use. My vehicle is a scheduled for an inspection at the dealer on 7/22/23.

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
The trailer brake controller on the vehicle is defective and keeps connecting and disconnecting. It's a known issue to the manufacturer as shown in service bulletin #6379278 image attached. The manufacturers solution is to contact the trailer manufacturer for instructions on how to disable the solar charge controller. I have done this but the trailer manufacturer (Grand Design) will not provide me with this information as they are saying this is a Chevrolet issue and Chevrolet needs to resolve it. This now places me in a situation where I am traveling with a trailer that randomly, and intermittently, has no operating brake system. This places me and the driving public in danger. This problem has been inspected by the manufacturers dealer and they have provided me the technical bulletin referenced above. There is a warning lamp on the dash that informs me of when the trailer brake controller connects and disconnects. This failure first appeared to us on May 30th, 2023 which was the first time we connected to our Grand Design 2500RL trailer. It has been consistently having this issue every time we are connected to the trailer. The truck has been to two Chevrolet dealers so far to try and resolve this issue. I have contacted Chevrolet customer service for an ETA on when this issue is to be resolved and they have none.

Potential Consequences:
Connecting this trailer to a new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, the trailer brakes cut in and out every minute or so. The truck shows a warning that the trailer brakes are disconnected, and then they reconnected. This happens repeatedly. General Motors and Forest River have been advised of this, but neither have a solution. Forest River does not want to engage with me (as consumer). GM is still working with me to trouble shoot. Theory is that the solar charging on the trailer is causing the issue with the GM vehicle. Truck (not the trailer) was in the dealer and no issues were found on the truck side. In social media groups, there are many others experiencing the same issue.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
Component - Integrated Trailer Brake Controller Safety - caused a vehicle skid and loss of control Inspection - it is scheduled to go in to the dealer today Warnings - the dash messages "Trailer Brakes Connected" and "Trailers Brakes Disconnected" displays often when a trailer is connected, as frequently as several times per minute. I believe that NHTSA and GM are aware of issues with the trailer brake connector on these vehicles. The integrated trailer brake controller connects and disconnects the trailer brakes as often as several times per minute. I have confirmed there is no issue with the trailer. The issue appears to be in the truck. This led to a near-miss accident. I was towing a double axle trailer with electric brakes on I-77 in West Virginia. The trailer brake controller disconnected and reconnected throughout the drive with warning messages displaying on the dash. I applied the truck brakes to stop for traffic on a downhill slope in the rain. As I applied the truck brakes the trailer brake controller re-connected and applied the trailer brakes at the relatively heavy force that I was using for the truck brakes because the trailer brakes had disconnected. This caused the combination truck and trailer to jolt and then skid on the wet pavement. The truck is scheduled to be serviced at a GM dealer today.
