POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, there were rattling and vibrating sensations coming from the vehicle. In addition, when driving at low speeds there was a thumping noise emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the transmission needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired however the failure persisted. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who reprogrammed and drained the transmission fluid. The dealer informed the contact that when draining the transmission, metal shavings were discovered and that it was common. The failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a transmission auto body where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed there was no recall and the repair was not covered under warranty due to being passed the year allowed. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 10,000.

1ST TO 2ND GEAR SHIFTS ARE HESITANT AND ROUGH, SOMETIMES DANGEROUS CAUSING TRUCK TO JUMP FORWARD. USUALLY IN PARKING LOTS. IF STOPPED ON A DOWNHILL ; I TAKE FOOT OFF BRAKE THEN THE TRUCK WILL ROLL LIKE ALL CARS DO, AND THEN WHEN I STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE TRUCK ENGINE WILL REV UP AS IF IN NEUTRAL THEN SLAM INTO GEAR CAUSING ME TO NEARLY REAR END THE CARS IN FRONT ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS
