General Motors Llc
NHTSA Campaign: 19V761000 SAFETY RECALL
653K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Oct 24, 2019
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Potential Risk:
Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

Recall Date: Sep 6, 2019
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

Potential Risk:
As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

214 Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jan 12, 2017
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Chevrolet Suburban HD vehicles. These vehicles were assembled with a convex right-hand outside mirror, instead of with a non-convex (flat) right-hand outside mirror. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Potential Risk:
If equipped with the incorrect right-side rear-view mirror, the driver may misjudge the distance of other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the convex mirror with a non-convex mirror and provide a new page for the owner's manual with the customer notification letter, free of charge. The recall began February 7, 2017. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 17017.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

3.6M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Sep 8, 2016
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Potential Risk:
A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transmission had a failure. The torque converter along with a valve assembly failed which caused metal to go everywhere inside of the transmission case. Per the transmission shop that completed the rebuild, they have seen this exact problem numerous times before and have fixed it. Rebuilt kit included cooling bypass, billet torque converter and other parts to rebuild transmission. Vehicle only had 85K miles on it and is a 2017. Price to rebuild was $4000, and dealership quoted almost $6000 for a reman. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Vehicle transmission disengaged while attempting to merge into traffic on busy road. Vehicle was stuck in middle of intersection with 3 small children in the back while vehicles were passing at high rates of speed on a 45mph limit roadway. The vehicle was unable to be safely moved until good Samaritans were able to push the vehicle in neutral to the side of the roadway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The vehicle transmission was inspected by both a local Southern NV Chevy dealership as well as a Transmission shop and was confirmed to need replacement due to the damage from the vehicle. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The parts that were removed from the vehicle were not inspected by any of the above parties. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No error codes or MILs were present before, during, or after the transmissions failure. Repair invoice available upon request.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Hi, there! I know a few people that have the same car as me Suburban/Yukon/Tahoe and everyone had to replace their transmission. My car has about 78K miles on it and I need to replace the transmission as well. It jerks really bad. When I press the gas pedal it doesn't move for like 2 - 3 seconds, but after that, it takes off like crazy. It seems very unsafe to me. Please look into it.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The transmission jerks a lot, especially when taking off. I know 4 more people that drive a Suburban, Silverado, and Yukon, and all of them had to change the transmission before 100k miles. The dealer doesn't want to fix it, cause the warranty expired, but how is it fair for us consumers to pay 60k for a car that only lasts 5 years? When I called the dealer, even the technician agreed that they have a lot of problems with the transmission and are booked a few weeks ahead just to take a look at it. Please advise. Thank you.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

On June 1st, we dropped off our 2017 Suburban Premier at the GM dealer. The suburban was had suspension issues, it was no longer safe to operate. Just before noon, the service advisor called to inform me that both struts and shocks were bad. If I wanted to proceed, repairs would be $4045.67. When asked how this was possible, I was told they hadn't seen this before. They thought this was odd, too. I was told it is common for their to be issues with this type of suspension, but they hadn't seen all of them have issues. I asked about policy assistance from GM, was told to file a claim with the manufacture after paying for repairs. With invoice in hand, I searched the parts online. I found I could buy the shocks and struts directly from GM for $451.14 ea, yet the dealership charged me $831.60ea. We paid the dealership $380.46 more for each part - totaling $1521.84 in dealer markup. I reached out to GM Customer Service on June 1st, opening case# 9-7845670653. I scanned and emailed the invoice and was told it was being send to the next level for review. In the five weeks since this started, I have called GM Customer service seven times and have sent six emails. I have received two emails and two calls. I've been told many different stories by many different people. I was told approval takes two days, then told it would take 14 days, followed with an internal approval problem. In the end, I was told it was a maintenance issue and GM would not be doing anything about. This is a huge safety issue! I no longer feel comfortable or safe in our suburban. I know that I am not alone in this issue, there are complaints of this every where you turn. This is a safety issue, GM should be issuing a recall or extending the warranty on these items. GM should be embarrassed, this is unacceptable!

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

The vacuum levels have dropped, causing a huge increase in braking effort. I could be rolling backwards in reverse and have the brake pedal all the way on the floor with all my strength and my car will still be rolling and eventually come to a stop. This is very unsafe and dangerous for me and also for others because it could cause me to roll into someone else’s vehicle. There has been a recall on this issue but I do not believe my car was serviced for it and it is no longer on the recall list. This is something that can be inspected at anytime seeing as it is only getting worse. Another issue I am now having is my transmission is kicking when going in and out of reverse, it won’t shift out of second and my transmission is now having to be rebuilt. I have no service lights on, no warnings and this was very sudden and out of no where.

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle became hard to stop/pressing brakes while pulling into my garage. Had to stomp the brakes hard to stop. There were no warnings prior to this issue. No check engine alert etc. Upon research, I see that there was a recall for a flaw with the suburban’s powered brake-assist system. When I put in my vin number it states that my vehicle is not included in the recall however this is the exact problem I am experiencing.
