Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.

116.2K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 29, 2019
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015-2016 Ford Edge, and 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.

Potential Risk:
If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. If any of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began October 18, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S26.

Recall Date: Feb 27, 2017
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles and 2017 Lincoln Continental vehicles. In the event of a crash, the driver's frontal air bag may not fully inflate or the air bag cushion may detach from the air bag module. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Potential Risk:
During deployment, if the air bag does not fully inflate or the cushion detaches, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began June 16, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C02.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 9, 2015, to August 12, 2016. During dealer servicing, the affected vehicles may be have been updated with incorrect Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software. This software can cause the ESC system to lose engine torque control, and not provide any warning lamps to warn the driver if there was an ABS or ESC system malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems" and number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Potential Risk:
If the operator is not warned of an ABS or ESC malfunction and the ESC loses engine torque control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Our Ford Edge is leaking coolant into the engine. We have been told by the dealership that it will require an entirely new engine for $8,000. This vehicle only has 72,000 miles on it. We have done internet searches and found that many, many Ford Edge owners have experienced the same problem. Ford needs to be held to account, issue a recall, and reimburse owners who have suffered financial hardship due to an obvious design flaw.

Potential Consequences:

[XXX] #:~:text [XXX] i just had to pay out of pocket $8,500.00 to replace the engine for a known issue with their eco boost 2.0 engine. Ford is aware of this and has been for many years yet no recall despite the safety issues and out of pocket expense to owners of the Edge, Escape, and other Eco Boost engine models. Spoke with Ford Customer Relations and was told nothing can be done. How are there two class action lawsuits in place, yet no recall to have these known defective engines replaced? Ford has been aware of the engineering and manufacturing flaws yet continues to sell these models in a fraudulent manner. Risk of fire, car stopping in traffic are just several catastrophic outcomes, not to mention having to replace the engine at owners expense as soon as the 3/36 warranty passes. I have the flex plate issue where it is cracked - and Ford will not fix the recall for free. I brought the car in prior to this issue and was told it was not cracked and now months later (and the recall time is gone) it is a cracked flex plate. Now I have to pay 4K to fix it, because I didn't make the timeline for the recall.

CAR WAS MISFIRING AND ROUGH STARTING WITH WHITE SMOKE OUT OF THE EXHAUST. TOOK IT TO MY SERVICE ADVISOR AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS ISSUE WITH THE COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE AND THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. THEY USED A TEMPORARY FIX WITH A K-SEAL UNTIL WE DECIDED ON WHAT TO DO. I RECENTLY SEARCHED ABOUT THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS LEAK COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO OVERHEAT AND CATCH FIRE WHICH IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT FORD HAD A RECALL ON THIS ON ECOBOOST TYPE ENGINE WITH OTHER MODELS. I CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY ARE NOT SHOWING A RECALL. MY CAR IS IN GREAT SHAPE AND HAS 108,000 MILES. READING THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME FORD EDGE 2.0 ECOBOOST ENGINE PROBLEMS AND THE DANGER WITH THE RISK OF FIRE SHOULD BE CAUSE FOR THIS TO BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL IN WHICH FORD SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Well, the car check engine light started flashing and my entire car started shaking, my coolant levels went from in between the max and min line to super below the minimum line, from what I've gathered there has been a major issue with your engine manufacturing for Ford Edges in 2015-2018 where the head gasket was not designed or manufactured correctly, thereby allowing coolant to leak out damaging the engine. it seems that several people have been running into this issue and nothing has been done about it, and your dealerships are charging to have the long block or flat out the entire engine replaced having customers pay out of their own pocket to fix a known issue your cars have been having for years when, having the issue leading to the car effectively being totaled should be repaired and covered by Ford via a recall due to the gravity of the issue itself, and the issue being caused from the manufacturer themselves. I've taken my car to several mechanics, and they all said the same thing about this problem with coolant getting into the cylinders and make the car completely useless. I had a cylinder 4 misfire at the beginning of this year and assumed it was the spark plugs so I replaced them all, and then the check engine light came on again and it said the same problem, so I took I into a mechanic and they told me about the coolant problem in June, and that it could be an issue I deal with and that they had seen that alot. But my car has been flashing for the last couple days I believe on August 20th.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My check engine light came on as my car started rough and white smoke was coming out of the engine and tailpipes. I immediately shut the car off and had it towed to Dahl Ford. I got a call later that morning that I needed an entire new engine due to a defective coolant design that caused the coolant to leak down on the engine and could start the engine on fire. I have 65,000 miles on this vehicle and have had all service completed by Dahl Ford which has only been oil changes. Dahl Ford had me call Ford Motor in Detroit because they have had so many engines with this coolant defective designed engine that can start a fire in the engine. They said Ford put out a TSB #22-2229 in June 2022 but has not done a recall and told me to report this to NHTSA. New engine replacement cost $6800.00 which I had to replace.

Corrective Action:

My check engine light came on as my car started rough and white smoke was coming out of the engine and tailpipes. I immediately shut the car off and had it towed to Dahl Ford. I got a call later that morning that I needed an entire new engine due to a defective coolant design that caused the coolant to leak down on the engine and could start the engine on fire. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

We were notified that our engine was leaking coolant into it’s cylinder with the only caused listed as a ford bulletin saying that these engines experience and need to be replaced. With the threat of the engine over heating, I feel that this design malfunction is not something I am directly responsible for. I have maintained this car exceptionally well.
