ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
My car stated hesitating when you’re trying to accelerate and slightly shaking a couple days before my check engine light turned on. I took it to a local mechanic which informed me they did a test and my coolant mixed with the oil. They made a call to Ford and was informed that the only option was to replace the whole engine. He was unable to repair it because understaffed went to two other mechanics and they also were unable to help. My car is now with Ford dealership for more than 2 weeks and was just again diagnosed for $159 and they once again confirmed I will need a whole new engine at just over 70,000 miles $8400 and no idea when they will be able to get the parts in… could be 3 months.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
the coolant leaked onto the coil of the motor & now my motor has to be replaced-extended warranty ran out & now looking at 8500-9000k to replace engine. my car is in immaculate condition, well maintained & I paid 40,000k when I purchased in 2017- has 84,000k miles.I have read online at CarGurus complaint after complaint of the same exact problem. The technician at Freedom Ford advised that this has happened to numerous 2.0L Ecoboost motors from 2017-2019 & now the motors have been changed & the problem no longer occurs after 2019. He says that he knows of no recalls. Ford is very well aware of the problem & should do a recall- we paid good money for these cars & they should last longer.

Defect Description:
EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Potential Consequences:
I can not see a dark road in the night if there is no additional lighting, such as street lights. I have been to the dealership and there is no brighter bulbs approved by Ford; they have repositioned the lights and it does not help. I have missed a right turn several times and understeered. Twice I have missed the road completely and ran into a ditch that was not made visable when using the dim headlights. I have hit a fence post after going into the ditch. I made no insurance claim thinking that I was my fault that I can not see well in this vehicle. I see several post online with complaints and concerns regarding this same issue of the 2017 Edge Titanium not have efficient dim headlights. This is a major safety concern. I can not see to safely drive at night on dark roads such as in the country. I can not see the road ahead of me more that a couple of feet and not at all when turning right. I bought the car from a dealership in spring this year, 2021. I seldom drive at night and I finally decided it is a vehicle issue not my personal issue with not being able to see the road at night. I will be going back to the dealership...again. It looks like I will have to buy a different car since there is nothing that can be done to make this car safe!!

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
My car started rough idling, about a week after that the check engine light came on. We took it to get checked out, the code was for a misfire on cylinder 2. The technician performed an inspection and informed us that we needed new spark plugs and ignition coil. After installing the new parts, the technician noticed coolant inside the cylinders and the engine, there was also white smoke coming out of the tailpipe when starting the vehicle. Our technician did some more research and came across a service bulletin from Ford (19-2346) regarding 2.0 L Ecoboost engines. Our Ford Edge falls under the service bulletin. The technician informed us that the only fix would be a completely new engine which we had to pay for. We have submitted this to our warranty company and have received partial coverage for the repair and parts. We were without the car for almost a month while waiting for diagnostics, parts, and repair. When we brought it in originally and were under the impression we would get the car back the same day and were planning on a 6 hour road trip to attend my son's hockey tournament. I am so thankful that we had a thorough and diligent technician who noticed the coolant, otherwise I would have taken the car on the road and I'm sure the engine would have given out on me somewhere along the way, leaving me stranded in a remote area of Alaska in freezing temperatures.

Potential Consequences:
automatic door latches and inside lights and flashers switch on and off randomly. It does not matter if the car is being driven or sitting overnight in the driveway. This may cause the battery to drain and require jumping off. It also allows for theft if the doors are unlocked. The problem was checked out by my local ford dealership. A representative went for a test drive and said he only heard the door latches click one time so it was not bad enough to worry about. I was told by the ford service rep. that it could be a low voltage problem so I replaced the car battery and the electronic key batteries but the problem continues.

Defect Description:
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
Bought a used 2017 Ford Edge in June of 2021 75K miles. Approx. three weeks later the check engine light came on. Diagnostic code was misfire in the number 2 cylinder. Spark plugs and coil packs were replaced. Check engine light remained on. Several days later check engine light went off. Brought the car in for a recall fix on brake hose and spoke with Ford technician that I was getting ready to travel to TN and wanted to make sure that it was safe to do so. Assured that it would be fine. During the course of our trip to TN the check engine light came on and off several times. On our way home noticed the heat wasn't working very well. Before we left the hotel in the morning checked coolant level and it was low. Filled it up and continued on our way home. Since then every three days coolant level is low. Starting up in the morning puff of white smoke comes out the pipe. Out of Fords warranty and a loan on a car I have had three months with a major problem. Did some research only to find this is a common problem that could potentially cause a fire. Dealer says I need a new engine...and I have to pay for it.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Engine is the 2 liter turbo version, when started the engine missed fired and ran rough which caused the check engine light to come on at ~58,000 miles. Took car to Roush Ford (Columbus Ohio) and dealer confirmed the misfire was caused by coolant leaking into engine. Dealer said a long block and related parts would be ordered to fix the problem. Now waiting for call from dealer to repair, no time frame given but they stated repair time would be long. Continue to drive car with engine light coming on and misfires at startup, hope car does not fail on freeway. Repairs may be covered by Ford but no info about rental car at Ford expense. Also have a 2015 Edge with same turbo engine which could fail the same way at any time as it has 80,000 miles.

Potential Consequences:
mechanic told me that radiator fluid was leaking into the number 2 cylinder which could cause the car to lose power. motor is a 2.0 eco boost. car has 62000 miles. i believe this is a very dangerous situation going down a busy highway or actually anytime. ford has known about this problem for a long time but has failed to do anything. mechanic told me many 2.0 motors has this problem of anti-freeze leaking into motor and ford issued a message about the problem to ford dealerships and how to fix it. their should be a recall to fix the problem before something bad happens. thank you
