Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. Recall Date: Sep 11, 2018
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles. These vehicles may have door striker bolts that are shorter than intended. Vehicles with shorter door striker bolts fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components" potentially resulting in the doors opening in the event of a crash.

Potential Risk:
If the doors open in the event of a crash, there is an increased risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door striker bolts, free of charge. The recall began October 18, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18C06.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The vehicle was bought in 2023 with 72,000 miles. Within one month, the engine light came on for misfire in cylinder 3. After replacing the spark plugs, with one day, the engine light came back on. It was later diagnosed by Ford dealer that there was coolant leaking into the cylinder. The dealer said it is a "known" problem per Ford for several years. A complete engine replacement was needed. The Ford dealership said they replace engines on Edges on a regular basis. This should be looked into as a recall.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Coolant leaks into engine cylinders. Symptoms included rough starting, loss of power, white smoke from the exhaust and Check Engine Light. Engine is available for inspection. Safety is comprised as the engine will suddenly lose power while driving. Diagnosis was confirmed by independent service center using Ford TSB 19-2346. Remedy is a complete engine replacement (per TSB). Called Ford Customer Service and they will not replace the engine under the drivetrain warranty (5 years or 60,000 miles) as the vehicle has 85,000 miles. Ford stated I MUST take the vehicle to a Ford dealership for diagnosis at which time they MAY have a financial assistance program which would only pay a percentage of the repair. The percentage is unknown, availability of programs is unknown and they could give me no further information. An internet search will reveal hundreds of owners with the same issue, spanning the 2015 - 2018 Ford Edge model years. I also found two lawsuits currently in the courts concerning this issue. Ford has known about this issue since 2010, they even provided a recall for the 1.5L EcoBoost engine, which is the same type of engine design as the 2.0L EcoBoost engine.

The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic and later to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that coolant had leaked into the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact had been advised by the independent mechanic that the manufacturer had released a TSB related to the failure, TSB: 19-2346 - Coolant in the Cylinders (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Bought used Feb. 2023. End of March cylinder 3 misfire code pops when the check engine light comes on. Replaced all spark plugs and 1 engine coil for cylinder 3. On off until Aug. 9th when the light came back on and I took to Ford Dealership. Paid for a diagnosis and the next day they called and said the coolant is leaking into the engine and this is a “known issue” and I will need a new engine. I have barely put 3,000 miles on top of the miles it came with. Should not have to pay for a new engine with a “known issue”!
