Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

NHTSA Campaign: 17V398000 SAFETY RECALL
3 Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 26, 2017
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016 Ford Escape vehicles. The driver's knee airbag modules installed in these vehicles were produced without the inflator gas generant material, and, as a result, the air bags may not inflate properly in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Potential Risk:
In the event of a crash, if the driver's knee air bag does not inflate as intended, the driver has an increased risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace driver's knee air bag, free of charge. The recall began on August 8, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C11.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

I have a sunroof and water leaks in and gets the headliner wet on both sides on the area vertically between windshield and front windows. I have had my front windshield replaced to ensure it wasn’t a windshield leak from a seal issue. It don’t fix the problem. I had my sunroof replaced in case it was that and it didn’t fix the issue either. I had the drain tubes for the sunroof flushed multiple times and it didn’t fix the issue either. This has been inspected/looked at by multiple auto places and it can not be located to the source of how water keeps getting in. Every time it rains it gets the headliner wet. There is no warning lamp indicating an issue. It is available for inspection should anyone else need to inspect it to try to find the source of why water gets in. It leaves water stains in my headliner. This is a safety issue if water gets into the car and the water can damage other components of the car. This issue has been ongoing for the last year approximately and I have brought the car in multiple times to address this but no one can locate the source so far.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

4/24/24 Vehicle began de accelerating quickly, going from 50mph to 28mph. The oil light came on, followed immediately by engine light, then seconds later, complete engine failure. Towed to dealership, where I was informed a week later that the engine needed to be replaced again. Ford replaced engine 1.5 years ago when another catastrophic failure occurred. That engine came with a 36 month warranty. Ford authorized the dealership to replace the engine again, however, was unwilling to provide a new 36 month warranty, indicating I would only have the remainder of the warranty period from the previous engine. This second incident could have resulted in serious injury to me, as it occurred on a busy road with no shoulder. I couldn’t open my driver door safely with speeding vehicles going by at 45-50mph to catch a ferry. My research indicates Ford was aware of potential problems with this model since before I purchased it new in 2016.

Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Auto was purchased from a dealership on 5/31/2023. We drove less than a mile down the road and a warning for "hood ajar" came on. We immediately pulled over only to find the hood was latched. Over the next few months there were numerous other warning/electrical items that came up: trunk ajar warning, problems opening the trunk, back up camera would often go black when car was in reverse, car would start honking like the alarm was going off when it was just sitting in garage with nobody near the car. The car was brought to the dealer on 6/14/23 for a separate recall issue and an electrician was supposed to look at these issues but they weren't at the dealership when we arrived for our scheduled appt. Couldn't get a new appt for a few weeks so went to our local auto shop who confirmed the issues and felt we could try a new battery which he put in on 6/30/23. Went to the Ford dealership on 8/31/2023 and they said we needed to have the APIM replaced and the rear park aid camera and latch. We couldn't afford these repairs. Since then we have taken the car in for tire rotation/oil change. This past week the car will not start unless we jump it with a battery cable. We looked into recalls and found out our VIN isn't under the recall. Obviously, these are safety issues that we had hoped would be covered by the recall. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
