Defect Description:
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
The rear-view camera on my 2017 Ford Expedition is malfunctioning. When I shift into reverse, the rear-view image appears, but once I finish reversing and shift into Drive, the image does not go away. The reverse camera feed remains frozen on the screen, even while driving forward. To clear it, I have to manually put the vehicle into Park and then back into Drive. This has to be done nearly every time I reverse, which is a distraction and a potential safety risk while operating the vehicle. I’ve read that Ford recently issued a recall involving over 200,000 vehicles for a similar issue caused by a fault in the SYNC infotainment system. My vehicle has experienced this exact problem for years, but my VIN does not appear to be part of that recall. The issue occurs almost every time I use reverse - causing the camera to stay on the screen of the Rear-view camera system / SYNC infotainment system Please investigate whether this issue is broader than currently recalled. This malfunction compromises safe operation of the vehicle and should be addressed by Ford.
