Recall Date: Jun 27, 2025
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Transit Connect, 2019-2020 MKZ, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, Fusion, 2019-2023 Ranger, Mustang, 2020-2021 EcoSport, Expedition, Navigator, 2020-2022 Escape, F-250 SD, Corsair, 2020-2023 Aviator, Transit, 2020-2024 Explorer, 2021-2024 Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank image, or the image may remain on the display after the backing event has ended.

Potential Risk:
A rearview camera that displays a blank image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle. A rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver. Both of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will update the rearview camera software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 28, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S72.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

On about 4 to 5 occasions while driving on the highway, the car sort of stalls and a loss of control happens where everything feels locked up for a few seconds and a big thump is heard. It feels like the transmission has completely dropped out or that I have been hit but I have not been hit, it’s just the jerking motion I was feeling. It has happened both when excelerating to change lanes and also when promptly slowing to avoid someone coming into my lane. It is a really scary situation and when I looked it up, apparently has been documented on recent earlier models of the car but not in my newer 2021 year. This issue is still happening with the newer model and needs to be looked into. The dealership confirmed and said the transmission needs to be replaced. There are only arousn 26K miles on the car, it started happening around 20K miles.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

After owning the car a year and about 15,000 miles I started having transmission rough shifting and lurching motions when shifting - violent lurching. I took it in to the dealership and they reset the adaptive learning component for the transmission. Nothing changed. Brought it in again and drove with technician and was able to reproduce issue. They replaced the transmission and the problems continued and actually increased with losing all acceleration on the freeway (floppy pedal) and then completely losing 10th gear when trying to pass another car. Luckily I was able to pull over and I did not cause an accident. It also threw a code/warning light at that time. I took it back to the dealership. They assessed and reset adaptive driving module. It then lost accelleration and wouldn't engage 10th and started smoking. Took it back to dealership and they claimed all that was due to over full transmission fluid. Original problems of rough shifting, lurching, clunking still existed. I filed a report with Ford and got a case number with the concern department. This resulted in the rear end of the car being replaced??? Car still has transmission issues, with all the above mentioned issues, and now delayed acceleration in the lower gears. Enough is enough fighting about fixing it for a year, it has been in for repairs 7 times, and over 49 days of rental cars . The vehicle does not cause warning lights at any point with the rough shifting, lurching, or lack of acceleration. All have been experienced at various times by the dealership. No solution to date.

Potential Consequences:

I do not feel Ford is taking recall 22S36 seriously. In 2022 they began claiming that parts would be available late summer of 2022. I have scheduled and brought my vehicle in at least three times to have this recall performed only to arrive and they didn't have parts. So now for several months I've started calling to check on parts. The first response is always "We can do that recall" but then after asking about parts to make sure I'm told that parts aren't actually available and that they are on back order and expected in two weeks. Ford is providing no means to schedule this recall service by putting customers on a wait list, ordering parts specifically for a VIN, or otherwise setting parts a aside specifically for customers actively trying to get the repair done. Today is day 462 since this recall, almost as many days as dollars they've spent on the handout. I hope the NHSTA takes a hard look at Ford's obligation to resolve recall 22S36 and at their inaction and insincere practice at doing so.

Defect Description:

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

On numerous occasions, when traveling at speeds 50mph and over, the vehicle failed to further accelerate when the gas pedal was engaged. This caused the rpm's to rev up to 7 and the vehicle to slow down. Our safety was at risk because the vehicle was unresponsive to acceleration for at least 20-30 seconds making it impossible to avoid or get away from something dangerous. On one occasion, the vehicle made an alarming grinding sound. I have not yet taken the vehicle to a service center for inspection of this problem. There were not any warning lamps, messages, etc prior to the failure.

Corrective Action:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

There is an issue with the auto start/stop where the engine is turned off completely when the vehicle is stopped for any reason. For example, when the car is stopped in a traffic jam it shut off completely which means I have to shift the gear to Park and turn the engine on again . I was advised by Ford dealership that there is not a fix for that. The vehicle is still under warranty and I keep calling the ford customer care center and they keep telling me that the manager on my case will contact and she/he never did.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

On April 14, 2022, a recall was issued for the wiper blade arms for my Ford Expedition. Unfortunately, I did not receive a notice until June of that year, due to a separate recall concerning potential under the hood fire risks. In September 2022, my vehicle was brought in for both recall repairs, but there was a supply shortage of wiper blades, rendering any immediate resolution impossible. Despite subsequent visits for regular check-ups, the wiper blade shortage persisted. On two different occasions (Jan & March 2023) my wiper blades did not work properly. After the wiper blades moved back and forth to clear my window, they got stuck at an angle and completely obstructed my view. I went to my local dealership to temporarily correct the issue. Fast forward to July 2023, and the eagerly awaited wiper blades have finally arrived. However, installing them has revealed a new problem: the blades do not fully retract. Although the wiper motor itself functions correctly, this issue stems from a combination of programming and quality concerns. It appears that a small part within the wiper blade, which prompted the recall, has led the motor to adapt to functioning without that part. Consequently, when the new recall blades are fitted, they do not retract properly, obstructing my view. Upon identifying the problem, the manager at my Ford Dealership promptly reported the issue to Ford, requesting coverage for the cost of a new motor to align with the recall blades. Despite their efforts, Ford has refused to take responsibility for an issue that is clearly not my fault. It is important to note that at the time of the recall, my motor was still under warranty. Additionally, during subsequent visits for oil changes, I was still within the warranty period. Unfortunately, due to the delay in receiving the recall blades, my motor's warranty has now expired based on the mileage of my vehicle. To receive a new motor, I have to pay for it since Ford refuses.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The 10R80 transmission, even after rebuilt by the dealership continues to shift in unexpected ways (hard shifts, not picking the right gear, hesitation under acceleration). It doesn't happen all the time, and isn't reproduceable at will. When the problem occurs, it is very noticeable. The vehicle will hesitate and not accelerate when pushing on the gas pedal, and then all of a sudden jump forward unexpectedly. The dealership has examined it after the transmission was rebuilt, and states that it is operating normally, but we were unable to duplicate the problem at that time. The next day, it happened again while driving on the highway when merging into traffic. Pressed on the gas pedal, but the car did not accelerate as expected (long hesitation), and then the transmission decided to change gears, and experienced hard shifts to the point the whole car jerks abruptly (this was NOT because of extreme pressing of the gas pedal). Just normal pressure on the gas pedal, and it will randomly decide how it will shift.
