I was driving down the interstate in the morning going traveling out of town for a day trip going approximately 60 MPH. There was an opening in the "Fast" lane so I pushed on the accelerator as I was getting over and it felt as if when it was down shifting it could not find any gears. The vehicle slowed WAY down, thank goodness the person that I pulled out in front of was pay attention otherwise they would have rear-ended us. The exact same thing happened twice again later the same day as we were headed home.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Expedition would not shut off! Electrical system burning and burned up fuse box battery and sensors could not kill power to vehicle. We had to pull full pump relay to shut off engine and then disconnect battery to shut down electrical system. This caused not only much damage to fuse box wiriring and battery. Ford dealer says 2500-3000 in damage to vehicle. This could have caused battery to explode or electrical fire glad this wasn’t parked in my garage and we where able to keep car from catching fire Expedition did have the previous recall done for electrical and still have issues with wiring

Potential Consequences:
10-Speed transmission frequently shifts hard, and sometimes misses a shift entirely resulting in no power for a few seconds while the transmission tries to "find" the right gear. This has occurred in busy intersections which obviously presents a major safety risk. Awkward shifting started about 2 months ago, complete loss of power has occurred 3 times in that time period. Vehicle is currently sitting in a Ford dealership service department awaiting diagnoses and repair since 5/29/23.

When changing Driving Modes the transmission display on the dash has numbers disappear and the transmission downshifts with great force which has lead to injuries. After sitting for more than a few hours the transmission will not go into reverse at first but will then violently shift into reverse after several minutes. These issues began not long after we purchased this vehicle new. The service manager at the dealership the vehicle was purchased from when I told him about these problems told me that I don’t understand how a 10 speed transmission works. Sometimes the driver’s seatbelt will not buckle.

Defect Description:
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Potential Consequences:
The contact owns a 2021 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that on two separate occasions while the cruise control was engaged at approximately 86 MPH, the RPM increased and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated; however, the contact’s husband was able to disengage cruise control to slow down. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician determined that the floormats had jammed the accelerator pedal however, the failure recurred. The contact then stated that on a separate occasion while the cruise control was engaged at approximately 84 MPH, the RPM increased rapidly and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated at high speeds however, the contact’s husband attempted to disengage cruise control, but the cruise control failed to disengage. As a result of the failure, the contact’s husband had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact’s husband was able to navigate off the road then turned off and restarted the vehicle. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the residence and was then towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that an unknown sensor and the battery was faulty however, the actual cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact owns a 2021 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that on two separate occasions while the cruise control was engaged at approximately 86 MPH, the RPM increased and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated; however, the contact’s husband was able to disengage cruise control to slow down. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician determined that the floormats had jammed the accelerator pedal however, the failure recurred. The contact then stated that on a separate occasion while the cruise control was engaged at approximately 84 MPH, the RPM increased rapidly and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated at high speeds however, the contact’s husband attempted to disengage cruise control, but the cruise control failed to disengage. As a result of the failure, the contact’s husband had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact’s husband was able to navigate off the road then turned off and restarted the vehicle. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the residence and was then towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that an unknown sensor and the battery was faulty however, the actual cause of the failure could not be determined. The following evening we noticed some drips coming from the reading light assembly on the roof between the driver and passenger seats (there is no sunroof). We contacted the facility and left messages - no return calls - we contacted the parent company NU Car Rental and did not get anyone on the phone after calling back multiple times. There was a hurricane/tropical storm approaching between 11/9 am-11/10 am and when I finally got ahold of someone during the storm shutdowns; I then notified them of the water intrusion. They said I can return the vehicle to the security guard after the storm passes but cannot guarantee they will have a replacement car for me and to rent elsewhere if I had to. They would note the account for a refund. I was on vacation in Orlando until 11/14, therefore I had to get another rental elsewhere. The afternoon of 11/10 when my husband got into the car with my son they realized tons of water was on the front floorboards. The night before and when we returned the car we got in the SUV to drive we heard water swishing in the body of the car (this was after the storm - we didn't drive during the hurricane alerts). Upon acceleration the water swished from the front to back and could be heard on both sides of the car then deceleration the reverse; water swished from the back to front. When we returned the car to the security guard around 5:55a he said it would be inspected by [XXX] the manager. The manager did not inspect the car until it was marked as returned at 6:20a. He stated on the notes the car was in good condition and listed incorrect mileage driven. Numerous attempts were made to get a refund due to the issues and safety concerns - failed attempts until I got an investigative reporter involved. Often time it made a loud metal snapping sound from under the hood when that happened. We just purchased this vehicle and started to notice a hard down shift when slowing down from 6th gear. I drove it Saturday January 21st and when I shifted the vehicle into reverse to back into a parking space it threw the transmission into a fault and had no reverse. Still drove forward. Took the vehicle in for service on 1/25/23. They ordered parts to fix the harsh shift. No comment on the reverse issue. Picked up vehicle evening of 1/25/23. Drove from dealership to gas station close to home, about 15 miles. Shut vehicle off to fuel. When I restarted the vehicle it kept pushing forward against trans pawl and then rolling back repeatedly. After it did this 10 times or so I put the vehicle in Nuetral and it proceeded to drive forward for 20-30 feet uphill. After 20-30 feet of driving forward the wrench light turned on and the vehicle stopped driving forward and rolled backwards down the hill as it should have. After this the vehicle had forward gears but no reverse gears. Wrench light and CEL light both illuminated when driving home from gas station. Will have dealership tow back 1/26/23 due to safety issue of vehicle driving forward while not in gear.

Front differential failed. I was driving to the mountains and when I reached snow level it was about 38 degrees F and I slowed to less than 20 mph and switched to 4A. Within a few moments I heard and felt a grinding sound from the front. I have used 4WD several times over the year or so I've had the vehicle and have never heard this noise before. I thought it was the hubs not engaging completely and so I switched it back to 2wd and while the noise was less it continued. I switched back to 4wd and I confirmed that 4wd was working but the noise persisted. I bought this vehicle specfically for its 4wd and my family's life depends on it working when we are up in the Sierras where it snows 2-3 inches per hour. When we returned I immediately took the vehicle to the dealer who informed me that it was the front differential that failed and parts are on back order. I am still waiting two weeks later. They said this is not common but why are parts on back order if it is not so common?

My intake manifold has been experiencing corrosion. I took it to the dealership for inspection. They said they couldn't determine what was causing it but confirmed it was a process of corrosion. After my own investigation, I have realized there is a design flaw in the gutter area where the bottom of the windshield meets the hood. When it rains or when I get a car wash, the fluid/water is channeled toward the center of the windshield and drains onto the intake manifold and other various surrounding engine parts underneath the hood. I have never seen this happen in other cars. It's a bad design that will eventually corrode the engine. Furthermore, it may be affecting some electrical components under the hood near the intake manifold. This is bad. Please look at the design on the 2021 Ford Expedition XLT. Not sure if this is how they have designed it on other model years, etc. It's a real problem that will cause some serious problems of the engine down the road.
