POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I bought a pre-owned "Gold Certified" 2023 Ford Maverick from a Ford dealer. The vehicle had around 32,000 or so miles at purchase. Soon after purchase, discovered that while accelerating from around 50-60 mph, the front end of the vehicle started heavily shaking without warning. The vehicle was taken to the Ford dealer who informed us that both front axles needed to be replaced. They informed us that they have seen this issue with other Ford Mavericks. The repairs were covered under warranty, and nobody was injured. This is an unsettling, since I have seen on this website numerous complaints about this same issue. Yet there has not been a TSB or recall to my knowledge.

Potential Consequences:

On acceleration from a stand still or in motion, the vehicle will start to shake/wobble pretty violently. It will go away when letting go of the gas. Seems to be coming from the front end wheels. Going under the car and checking all connecting points, the CV axle has a lot of play. You can move it around.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

While traveling 80 MPH using cruise control, the vehicle speed suddenly reduced and several warning lights illuminated. The three warnings were Pre-Collision Assist Not Available, Service Engine Soon Warning, and Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power. The accelerator pedal did not work but I was able to coast to the nearest exit. I stopped, turned the vehicle off and back on a few times but the warning lights would come back on. When I shifted the transmission into Drive the vehicle would take off on its own. I drove the remaining 30 miles just letting the vehicle accelerate on its own because the pedal did not work. It wouldn't accelerate over 35 MPH. The vehicle would still pull when I applied the brakes. Once home, I turned the vehicle off for an hour. When I turned it on the warning lights no longer illuminated and the vehicle drove normal.

2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid XLT lost all engine power at highway speed in the left lane of [XXX] . Red Warning Triangle with notice to pull over and Check Engine light with codes P0811, P0E71 and P1920. Truck then went completely dead, no electrical indication on the instrument panel and would not start. I towed it to the dealer and they said they reset and reloaded software on the PCM and BCM, but no explanation of what caused the issue to occur. Very unsafe for everyone if these hybrid vehicles can just go dead like this with no warning and no prior issues. SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

I was feeling a shaking throughout while driving. I took it into the dealership to have it looked at as it is a fairly new vehicle with less than 25k miles on it. They informed me that both of the CV Axles had gone out and were replaced. I was so shocked as those are supposed to last a fairly long time on a vehicle. I researched and it appears several Maverick owners have experienced the same thing, with some stating they be gone out twice before 34k miles and some as early as 10k miles. When I asked if it was a good thing I brought it in, the advisor told me absolutely it was as it is a huge safety issue if left unfixed. There were no warning lights for it nor any recall for it. I most certainly believe there needs to be something done about this.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS

Potential Consequences:

On [XXX], I was involved in a backing accident that was significantly caused by the subject of this recall (Manufacturer Recall Number24S59, NHTSA Recall Number24V684). When I put my vehicle in reverse, the rear view camera came on. However, what I didn't realize was that the image displayed on it froze shortly after the camera turned on making it appear that it was clear behind me and safe to back. But another vehicle had pulled off of the street and stopped right behind me immediately after I put it in reverse and was looking at the frozen image that it was clear and safe to back. The car behind me was shorter than my vehicle and had pulled in behind me in the drive-thru line at somewhat of an angle, so only the front of their vehicle was directly behind me and the rest of out of view of my rear view mirror. I was trying to back, because the drive-thru was two lanes and the right lane I was in was backed up due to a delay and an employee was waving me to come to the left lane since it was open and available. Because the other customer had just pulled in behind my vehicle from the street while my rear view camera was displaying a frozen image of when it was clear behind my vehicle, when I backed slowly, my rear bumper cracked the other car's front bumper. Because of Ford's safety issue, I have incurred an expensive liability claim for damages to the other party's vehicle. Claim details: Claim #: [XXX] ($3,563.81 in repairs + $581.06 rental car = $4144.87 total) StateFarmClaims@statefarm.com Ph: [XXX] Fax: [XXX] A fix for the recall has since been issued and I need to get my truck in for recall repairs. However, I am filing this complaint to NHTSA to document the damage caused by this issue and will also be seeking recourse from Ford.
