FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Bricked Mach E Extended Range with 10K miles and recently completed the roof and windscreen recall the week prior. Went to brunch and then came out to a car that would not start. Warning of "Stop Safely Now" even though the vehicle was driven to the location and then sat for 2 hours and was currently parked and still gave us this message. Low voltage (12 Volt) came in slightly low at 12.6 VDC. Attempted two jumps from another vehicle and a higher amperage tow truck with no change in error code nor would the vehicle "start". We resulted in doing a tow to a dealership for potential repair. Dealership has had it now for going on the third week. They are citing the replacement of the battery bus where the Low Voltage 12 VDC interfaces with the brains and main battery system. This has been cited before in the Mustang Mach E blogs. Replacement part is on hand but the dealership has a specialist being flown in to remedy the replacement part installation. Read in Mach E forums of similar problems where the battery became low and the vehicle was then disabled from engaging the drivetrain. Overall problem gave us pause on ownership and we will qualify for the Lemon Law buyback for CA if it comes to that. Looking to see if repairs will be complete this week.

Potential Consequences:

There are two safety recalls for many Mach-Es including mine for the windshield and glass roof. Many owners are finding that their Ford dealer is refusing to do the recall work. I first attempted to get mine done in November 2021. My dealer says they still can't do the work. I have called 5 other dealers in the Denver area and I finally got on the waitlist for one dealer. The other dealers say they are unable to do the recall. I have talked to owners in other parts of the country that are experiencing the same refusal by their dealer.

After some unsuccessful troubleshooting the next day, I had to call a tow truck and have the vehicle brought to a dealer for repair. It was diagnosed with a faulty BECM (Battery Energy Control Module). After repair, I have not yet seen a repeat occurred the issue.

Second time this has happened. A message will pop up saying “please stop safely now” once you stop you can not get it out of park. If your driving you are stuck wherever you are. I was stranded the first time with no heat in 20 degree weather. They fixed it after having it for a month then it just happened again today in 80 degree weather with my kids in the car. This has happened to multiple other people as well.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I was stranded in a parking lot in the evening when my car wouldn't start. The vehicle displayed a "STOP SAFELY NOW" message and I couldn't get the car to move on its own. This happened on April 13, 2022. My safety was at risk because I was in a parking lot at night and unable to engage my car. I had to call and wait for a tow truck. The Ford dealership, in consultation with Ford engineers, confirmed that it was due to a faulty High Voltage Battery Junction Box (HVBJB) and it had to be replaced. With the faulty HVBJB, the car was undrivable. The HVBJB was inspected by Ford personnel and determined to be faulty. It was replaced under warranty. There were no other messages or warnings before my car failed to start. No prior symptoms. I drove normally to a store, parked the car, and when I returned to my car it failed to start.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

I have been attempting to get two recalls done since November of 2021: NHTSA recall Numbers 21V711 and 21V712. I have called several ford dealers (O'Meara Ford, Larry Miller Ford Lakewood, Groove Ford and Schomp Ford) and no one will either schedule the repair or they will schedule it and then cancel it on the day of the incident. I've been told either ford won't pay enough to get the recall done (Approx. $350 for labor and not being clear on covering the cost of a broken panoramic roof) so the glass subcontractors won't take the job due to liability concerns or that the parts needed, (spare panoramic roof and windshield) in case the glass breaks during removal, have been on backorder so they can't (and won't order) the parts. I have become extremely concerned as the recall notice notes: "INADEQUATE URETHANE ADHESION OF THE PANORAMIC ROOF GLASS MAY RESULT IN INCREASED WIND NOISE, WATER LEAKS, AND OR THE ROOF GLASS MAY LOOSEN AND BECOME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE, CREATING A ROAD HAZARD AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." So now I'm driving a vehicle for six months where my roof could come off, creating a potential hazard for me and the public driving behind, not to mention the potential damage from leaks could cause to the interior of my vehicle. It seems that neither Ford nor the dealers are taking this issue seriously in the Denver Metro area.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY:MANAGEMENT SYSTEM/ENERGY CONTROL MODULE (BMS/BECM)

Potential Consequences:

At around 600 miles my vehicle displayed "high voltage battery warning" and "powertrain malfunction" dashboard warning lights. Each light had an associated description that indicated the vehicle's power could fail at any time. This is a 1st model year all electric vehicle. The fact this occurred within 1k miles of ownership is concerning. I took it to a local Ford dealer, ultimately they replaced the high voltage battery junction box and battery electronic control module.

I was driving 70 mph on Hwy 99 in California about 35 miles north of Bakersfield when the car suddenly lost all power. A warning message appeared on the dash "stop safely now." I was able to coast over to the side of the road (there really wasn't much of a shoulder). It was extremely unsafe. The car would not move out of gear, would not start, etc. The car has 1550 miles on the odometer. I waited 1.5 hours for a tow truck to take the car to a Ford dealer. I was 4 hours from home. I am a 71 year old widow. I was traveling alone with my small dog. It was very frightening. The car has been at the dealership for a week. They have no idea what the problem is. The dealer is working with "a Ford engineer" to diagnose the problem. The Mustang Mach-E owners' forums are FILLED with complaints from other owners who are experiencing the exact same problem with this car.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The vehicle started saying a door was ajar without indicating which one. Sometimes we would get an intruder alert while the car was plugged in at work but nothing was open or unlocked. Occasionally the passenger door would open on its own after turning off the car. Now we get a door fault alert after starting the car. We have contacted a local dealer as well as our purchasing dealer but both indicate. Month before they can see the car due to lack of qualified techs. Today, 4/26/2022 the passenger door opened on its own while at highway speed. Only the driver was in the car. The driver had to reach over to rematch the door. A dealer appointment was set two weeks prior for 5/12/2022.
