Roush Performance Products, Inc. (Roush) is recalling certain aftermarket supercharger kits, part number R1318-6006P1-AA, sold for installation on 2018 Ford Mustangs. A fuel leak can increase the risk of a fire.

142 Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Apr 4, 2018
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ford F-150 and 2018 Ford Expedition and Mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions. A roll pin may not have been installed in the transmission, potentially causing a loss of the "Park" function.

Potential Risk:
Despite the transmission shift lever being placed in 'Park' and the instrument panel display indicating 'Park,' the vehicle may roll away after it has been exited if the parking brake has not been applied, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmission to make sure it has the roll pin, installing one if it is missing, free of charge. The recall began on April 13, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S09.
Additional Details:

2.1K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Dec 18, 2017
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2018 Ford Mustang vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and a 12.4" digital instrument cluster. If the ignition is turned off when the transmission is not in PARK, the instrument cluster may not illuminate the PRNDL gear position display and the operator may not receive the "Key in Ignition" chime when the driver's door is opened. As such, these vehicles fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence/Starter Interlock/Transmission Braking Effect," and number 114, "Theft Protection."

Potential Risk:
Without a visual or audible warning to the driver that the vehicle is in PARK, the vehicle may roll away after it has been exited if the parking brake has not been applied, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument cluster software, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 5, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C21.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

My 2018 Ford Mustang with Automatic Transmisson recently(Sept) started having issues with the gear shift being placed in Park, but the instrument panel is not illuminated in Park. If driver door is open, and keys removed, the chime may or may not sound. Research is showing same issue being reported and recalls were done due to missing roll pin that attaches the park pawl rod guide cup to the transmission case, and unseated transmission gear shift cable clip. If the parking brake is not applied, this could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury or crash. The recalls only covered vehicles manufactured at a certain plant. However, my VIN # is not included in recalls. Due to safety concerns that my vehicle may lose Park function and roll away, causing damage/harm to others, I feel it should be included in the recall programs and repaired at no cost to me. I have not taken vehicle to Dealership at this point, as they will charge me $150 diagnostic fee.

TIRES

Potential Consequences:

September 9, 2022 at 4:45 P.M. CST. Less than 300 yards from merging onto the interstate, my children and I heard an extremely weird noise coming from the passenger side of my car, so I immediately pulled over. My daughter and I both looked at each other and asked, “what is that?” I told my daughter I knew I did not have a flat, however I felt like there was something wrong with my tire. We exited my car and found that my passenger side front tire had wire showing and was tearing/ripping at the “belt”. This occurred on/near the inner sidewall. I drive a 2018 Mustang GT, and had this occurred while traveling at 75mph on the interstate, it is likely it would have ended badly. It is likely that I would have lost control of my car and I could have possibly totaled my car, rolled/flipped it and it could have taken the lives of myself or my two children who were with me. I have found multiple other complaints regarding the same issue that I just experience at the following link: https://continentaltire.custhelp.com/app/social/questions/detail/qid/65/~/extreme-contact%2C-unacceptable-tread-wear Based upon those reviews and what I experienced today, this seems to be a manufacturer defect, which should not only be addressed and recalled but be replaced free of cost. Once I found the problem, I put my spare on, drove home and removed both front tires and put two of my stock wheels and tires on the front. Upon inspecting the driver side front tire after removal, I found that it too had the same issue happening in the exact location of the passenger side. Had this not occurred I would not be aware of the driver side doing the same thing. I absolutely do not think this was a coincidence or any mechanical issue, as the driver side is doing the exact same thing, in the exact same location and around the exact same letters as the passenger side. no warning lights were on.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My engine started knocking/ticking at around 6,000 miles, shortly after my first oil change. I was aware of the knocking issies, thanks to numerous youtube videos, before i even recieved my special order mustang so i made sure to use the same oil and filter that originally came with my car. Now the car has 18,500 miles on it, the knocking/ticking is getting worse and worse every year and Ford is calling the problem "normal" and refuses to do any repairs. The car has now been unsuccessfully serviced 3 times and should now be placed under the lemon law.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

This issue is when a haze develops on the inside of the windshield in the line of sight of the forward facing camera that detects vehicles, objects, traffic lanes and rain sensing. Since this area of the windshield is enclosed, there is no way to clean it. This is not condensation but dust particles that adhere to the glass, possibly from AC or heat that flows along the windshield and also it possibly enhanced in humid climates. When the issue occurs, the dash warning will appear stating, "Front Camera Low Visibility Clean Screen" and the outside windshield is definitely not dirty. I've taken this to my local Ford dealership and they claim they have no way to address the problem and suggested I take it to a windshield replacement shop, such as SafeLite, they also said it is not covered under any Ford warranty. I find this odd, since it is a potential design defect with the vehicle. This is a random occurrence and because of the warning, I fear it diminishes the accuracy of everything the front sensor detects and could be potentially dangerous. I've found several postings in vehicle forums online with the same issue but nothing about Ford or anyone resolving it, so this is not an isolated issue. Here is one posting in a forum showing the warning as well as images of the camera/windshield area that is the issue. https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/front-camera-haze.156882/ This is exactly what I'm experiencing. Also, doing a google search for the above warning message will bring up several other postings in forums about the issue with various Ford vehicle models with the same front camera design. Thank you for looking into this.

Defect Description:

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL

Potential Consequences:

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? THE ELECTRONIC, ALL DIGITAL DASHBOARD WENT COMPLETELY BLACK FOR ABOUT 25 SECONDS WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, IN TRAFFIC AT NIGHT, 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? WHEN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT BLANK, I WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE ANY INFORMATION THAT IS NORMALLY DISPLAYED, SUCH AS SPEED, AMOUNT OF FUEL, ETC. NOTHING. THIS GLITCH TOOK MY ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE INTERSTATE AND TRAFFIC. IT FRIGHTENED ME TERRIBLY. I COULD HAVE EASILY HAD AN ACCIDENT AS I TRIED TO FIGUE OUT THE ISSUE IN THE DARK. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? THE IS UNKNOWN TO ME. HOWEVER, IF YOU SIMPLY GOOGLE, "DASHBOARD GOES BLANK IN FORD 2018 MUSTANG', YOU WILL FIND MANY, MANY OTHER MUSTANG OWNERS STATING INCIDENTS OF THE EXACT SAME BLACK OUT HAPPENING TO THEIR INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN DRIVING THEIR CARS. FROM WHAT I READ, THIS ISSUE IS NOT LIMITED TO THE 2018 MODEL YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO FORD, YET THEY SEEM UNWILLING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? THIS QUESTION IS UNKNOWN TO ME 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MILES PER HOUR ON THE INTERSTATE IN TRAFFIC, AT NIGHT, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SIMPLY WENT BLACK. IT IS TOTALLY DIGITAL, SO I HAD NO ACCESS TO ANY INFORMATION REGARDING MY SPEED, AMOUNT OF GASOLINE REMAINING IN THE VEHICLE, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT IS CUSTOMARILY DISPLAYED BY A VEHICLE'S INSTRUMENT PANEL. i PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, USED, ON JANUARY 22, 2022. PLEASE MAKE FORD RECALL ALLMUSTANGS, REGARDLESS OF MODEL YEAR, WITH THIS KNOW ISSUE BEFORE SOME IS KILLED!

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Potential Consequences:

I shifted into reverse and the rear-view camera image was very distorted. I shifted to neutral and then reverse again with no help. After checking the internet for info I found comments regarding the wire harness leading to the trunk lid. I did not find any obvious damage, but jiggled the wires and re-checked the system and the rear-view image came back with a clear image. over the next week, the image become distorted multiple times and sometimes gone to a no signal message. This is occurring more frequently makes it impossible to see objects/children/etc close to the rear of the vehicle.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Potential Consequences:

The Accessory Protocol Interface Module failed. All functions of the camera, radio and entire middle display console do not work. When backing up to exit parking space or to back into a parking space I can't see what is behind me and have almost hit items multiple times. The dealer inspected and told me what the issue is; that it is not under warranty and would cost approximately $1000 to repair, which I don't have. There was no forewarning of this module failure; it occurred suddenly and without warning.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Potential Consequences:

2018 with 24,000 miles (purchased brand new) every morning until the car warms up I dont have navigation, radio, Bluetooth, or back up camera's. I was told this was a common problem with Ford from the dealership but its not a recall. After researching online, its a very common problem with all makes and models of Ford. Of course I'm out of warranty to replace the APIM which is going to cost 1,000 out of pocket. Safety concerns: I have to navigate using my phone which is a distraction while driving, same thing with phone conversation I can be hand free, and I have a major blind spot while backing up because of no camera.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Battery terminals on this and other ford models corrode to the point of breaking electrical connection possibly disabling vehicle. Ford does not want to fix issue and says whole wiring harness requires replacement to repair. Battery is often replaced and terminal cleaned but it comes back. They try to put off repairs long enough to get it out of warranty. F150 ford pickups have same issue. Corrosion advances so far as to break battery cable clamp. It is generally the positive clamp. Problem is so common that aftermarket manufacturers have issued redesigned replacements.
