SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Honda is using cheap brake pads/rotors on their cars. I was parked and went in reverse and the brake pads started squealing so loudly, something didn’t seem right. I’ve never heard this sound before and my family hasn’t either who’ve owned many cars before. I took it to the dealership and they were able to reproduce the sound. They said nothing could be done even though the brake pads are too thick. This seems to happen when it’s humid, raining or cold. The dealership didn’t really care but this seems like a hazard. I’ve read on forums and researched online that this is a very common issue and nothing is being done to fix it. A recall should be issue because this can be a road hazard.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The head unit touch screen beings to have "ghost" touches which start basically changing everything that's available on the screen. This has led to suddenly loud music being played, navigation being moved around, etc. This causes distractions constantly as it's completely unexpected. The unit offers no way to turn it completely off so you're stuck with it doing stuff randomly. There's also no physical buttons to control any of the functions on the screen. It's basically forcing you to try to get it to stop doing random actions while you're driving.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The vehicles touchscreen system malfunctions and begins “phantom touching” buttons all over the top area of the screen. This results in excessive distractions to the driver as it attempts to make phone calls, start and stop navigation, change radio stations or source, and has loud beeping noises on each “phantom touch.” There is no way to disable the touchscreen or turn it off so each time you drive, these excessive distractions occur and the only “remedy” offered by Honda is to force the consumer to pay over $1000 out of warranty to replace the component.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

The contact owned a 2022 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving 68-70 MPH, the vehicle stopped abruptly, causing another vehicle to crash into the rear passenger's side of the vehicle, and a second vehicle to crash into the rear of the vehicle, causing the trunk to be pushed inside the rear seats of the vehicle. The brake warning light was illuminated. The air bags of the contact's vehicle did not deploy. The air bags of the two other vehicles deployed. The contact stated that the rearview mirror separated and hit her head, causing a concussion. Additionally, the contact sustained whiplash, PSTD, and contusions on the back and on both ankles. The contact received medical assistance. The front passenger seat occupant of the second vehicle that rear-ended the vehicle sustained hip injuries, as the occupant was still recovering from a hip surgery that she had undergone prior to the collision. It was unknown whether the passenger received medical assistance. There was no property damage. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to Crash Champions, where it was totaled. The contact hired private investigators who retrieved the EDR data and informed the contact that the emergency braking system had engaged prior to the crash; however, the contact stated that there was no other vehicle or object around the vehicle at the time the emergency braking system had engaged. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the contact was informed that special equipment was not available to diagnose the vehicle based on the EDR data. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,600.

Potential Consequences:

The Touch Screen Malfunctions. The hands-free functions and navigation functions cannot be accessed. The touch screen randomly switches from application-to-application beeping every time it does this. This occurs every 10-15 seconds. I believe this is a safety concern for 2 reasons. First, I travel with a 3 year old. The lack of navigation and hands-free calling presents a safety problem as I must look down to my phone in order to see where I need to go. I cannot receive or make a call without exiting the highway and stopping my vehicle. Second, the incessant beeping, and screens jumping around is very distracting. This is a known Honda Issue for a 2022 Honda Accord. Honda replaced the screen once. It worked properly for 5 months and the problem has recurred. The only recourse advised at this point was to contact you to make a report.

Defect Description:

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

At approximately 9:20 a.m. on November 20, 2024 while driving at approximately 27 MPH the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) on my 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid activated, bringing my car to a near halt while driving on a clear road in perfect visibility. At the time of the incident there were three pedestrians and a dog present on the sidewalk approximately 5 feet to the right of the roadway. Traffic on this particular stretch of road was relatively light at the time of the incident. No collisions occurred, and no individuals were injured. However, on a normal day there will be numerous other vehicles driving in the same lane, which would likely result in a rear end collision should this problem recur. This incident occurred without any prior warning or other symptoms. The vehicle's CMBS has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer or any other parties.

Defect Description:

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

2022 Honda Accord Hybrid Owner's Manual: It would seem that the owner's manual in this report I'm personally submitting isn't providing proper instructions to the public for changing motor oil. Motor oil is SCALDING HOT when not left to cool for long enough yet ALSO when improper gloves are used for changing the motor oil itself. Please see attachments: On page 545 where the specific title "Changing the Engine Oil and Oil Filter" begins, prior to entry number four, there are no instructions for any amount of time required for waiting for cooling the engine nor are there instructions about the heavy-duty gloves that should be used in the process of changing the oil. Entry number four states in plain language, "Remove the drain bolt and washer from the bottom of the engine, and drain the oil into a suitable container." --- This would be an EXTREMELY TERRIBLE standard to set for the public. Furthermore, there are no safety messages on either of those two pages that are specific to the "Danger", "Warning", or "Caution" safety messages that are seen towards the beginning of the owner's manual referenced above. I hope this does not resemble anything close to a wide-spread standard. In fact, it shouldn't be the standard anywhere. Please assist the public in providing proper screening for automobile owner's manuals such as these. Thank you. (Referenced incident date invalid due to data field parameters)
